I don't usually have any dash rattle or anything like that. But the other day driving to ford dealer, i noticed a squeak coming from that area your describing whenever i hit a bump. Its never happened before, and i noticed it was the cupholder that comes out of the dash board. Its was squeaking becaues therer was a lot of change in there from my trip to SC. I emptied it out and it stopped again

just might wanna check that out. something might be loose around there

I have the same rattle and have tried everything to fix it but it seems to have its own mind. It comes and goes whenever it wants.

Angry Squeak rattle!

I too have the squeak/rattle in my dash. You would swear it is coming from behind the dash on the right side of the steering column. The other day I decided to find it! I found that when you push down on the top dash insert where there is a soft little round plug that the rattle goes away. I have not taken it to the dealer yet, but I thought this might help you guys out there in the world of HD trucks! It's a little disappointing to have this problem in such a beautiful fast truck!

Rattle

I had/have the same problem. Used to be whenever I hit the slightest bump I got a rattle from the passenger side. I got a little p-d off and tore the dash apart. The airbag wiring was all taped up, but it swings. Figured that was the cause, so I used a couple zip ties and took care of that.
I didn't get any rattles from that side for awhile...now it's back and just as annoying as ever. Took the dash back apart and the airbag wiring is still secure...no idea what's causing it, and I hate it!

Since my truck is at the dealership body-shop getting repainted, I asked him about the rattle...apparently it's pretty common to all F150's...which is what I figured. He said it's actually a piece on the rear of the dash (towards the firewall), but they haven't found a way to fix yet.
He just grinned and told me that 04 should solve the problem...great.

Dash Rattle Fix

Hi All,

I had the same dang problem a couple months after I purchased the truck. To make a long story short, after several trips to the dealer the resolved the squeek/rattle. They told me they tore the dash apart and found that a peice of metal was rubbing between the dash and body and they cut it down. Whatever they did they fixed it.

I also noticed that the squeek became worse when the AC was on or it was cold and was not apparent when it was hot or the heater was cranked. The dealer said it was due to the metal expanding and contracting under the conditions which caused the squeek. They also stated they have had meany complaints about this problem. What ever they did they fixed it. Just be persistant.

I too have this rattle on the passenger side. I cannot find it either. It is VERY ANNOYING! I also now have a sqeak from the pickup bed ever since i installed my Innovation Hard Tonnau. Going to the dealer next friday to fix the rattles. I also have a squeak when gears shift @ WOT. They will be fixing that too. I remember that we all posted about the tranny problem squeaking into gear but i cannot find it and would like to be able to tell the dealer what it is.

I also had the problem with the belts slipping and squeaking at WOT. Took it to the dealer and he installed new belts and an idler pulley...no more squeak.

Same dash rattle here, and it IS annoying! Its not there in 80+F heat, but about under 75, and really in the 60's, its loud. Quite annoying.

While I don't own a HD my F150 suffers from a squeek in the dash for about 4K miles now. I have had it in to be fixed 3 different times and its going back in again Tuesday. To top that off my drivers seat has a creek in the back which just started. I have had this truck a total of 1 year and 2 months and put 18K miles on it and it sounds like my 12 year old Mustang w/156K miles that has been beaten to death.

Now the things I have noticed with the squeek is that it seems to be a lot worse when the HVAC is running, doesn't matter if it is on A/C or Heat. Anyone have a clue what is causing this? My next step is calling Ford and my attorney and see if I can get another truck. I really don't want to do that since I like the truck and I don't like the '04 F-150s and I doubt they would swap my truck for a Superduty.

Thanks.

Old thread I know, but my 17K 01 Lightning has developed the same squeek up by the firewall/center dash. I tore the dash apart and it is the center bracket that aligns the dash. It can be viewed by removing the large dashoval insert. I can actually push down on the bracket and reproduce the sound. If I could find out where the bottom of the bracket was i would be the source of the squuek. The top of this bracket has an alignment hole in it and floats. Any ideas??
