Exhaust Poll, please respond

I do not believe there is currently a decent quality cat back system that will bolt up to the harley using stock hangers and such. The L has several but the up and over the axle bend of the HD introduces some cutting and bending to an L catback or basically custom making your own system.

So here is my poll

1) How loud do you want? A little over stock? A lot over stock? If you say a lot, will the constant drone on the highway bother you? A lot of people say loud at first, but after the first few weeks they realize the drone is not acceptable. Some people want the truck to scream and could care less about the drone...

2) Do you want it to exit in front (Like the L) or rear of the wheel?

3) How much would you pay for a high quality stainless steel setup with tips and all?

Thanks for your input. I was asked this by someone who wants to develop an application specific unit for our trucks and I want to help them out as much as possible.

Thanks

Ken

I wanted "a little louder and deeper"... added a Magnaflow DI/DO muffler to the stock exhaust--it is louder (not too loud), but does have a drone at around 75-80 mph... kinda annoying, but does sound good when you stomp it! I would be very interested in a modest priced, high quality, rear exit, stainless system. Maybe in the range of $450-500??? No drone.

A little louder with a mellow sound, kind of like the muscle cars of the 60's/70's exit in stock location price range 350-400

you have drone with the magnaflow... is it worse than the drone the stock muffler had? is it the 14468 (shorter) or 14568 (longer) can?

Thanks!

I installed a Borla Cat back rear dual outlet system on my 2000 HDF150. Sounds great & looks even better!
My vote is rear dual outlet.

1. How loud do you want? A little over stock and no drone

2. rear of the wheel just like stock

3. 400-500 for a good system that makes more power

Got my DI/DO flowmaster put on friday. I love it. I don't think the drone is annoying at all (I just need a louder stereo next). It really screams when you step on it, these are Harley trucks right? The drawback is the stock tips are welded and I couldn't re-use them. I went with some magnaflow SS tips in front of the rear tire. I would have like to had them come out of each side of the truck, but that would have been a much larger investment. I paid about $325 (with a discount). I still haven't got pics, but I will start my gallery soon!

Got the Magnaflow 14468, nice setup. I left the stock tails from the muffler back. Unless you have a max moded blown 02 your not going to loose anything going through the stock tails, just ditch the muffler. Remember, your going through 4 cats, you want to know restriction, look there.

Cool

Our exaust system is stainless steel except for the tips. I cut my muffler off and installed an X pipe it cost me $70.00 and it is the same thing as the Magna flow DI/DO muffler.

I was running Borlas on my 95GT and I loved them. I like the stock location for the exit. I think I would trade my stock ones for Borlas but keep the same location.

Also, not like it matters cuz the truck weighs so much, but aftermarket mufflers weigh way less than stock ones!

I'd like more of the big-block sound. Little to no drone. I'd also like to get a true dual exhaust with X-pipe that exits out on both sides of the truck in front of the rear tire with dual chrome tips.

Has anyone addressed the issue of the four cat's? I'm not advocating the total removal of cat's especially for the street, BUT two high performance cat's and a "dumby code" (like so many of our bowtie buddies do) could offset the abnormality of headers having little to no effect on our trucks. Its true that you can see some benefit from improvements on either side of a bottle neck, but very limited to what could be achieved if the bottle neck was improved.

On my GT my cats, um, "disapeared" one day. So I was forced to by MIL Eliminators so that it would fake the computer. Have not had a problem while I search for my cats

But, personally, I wouldn'd recomend it. It's been a problem and a worry. I won't do it again.
