Question how much boost

Is anyone running a 6# lower with a 3# upper? I was thinking about trying the 6 because if some is good more is better! Right? Seriously, can the engine handle that much boost? I know the chip would need burning but what else. Fuel is not really an issue, I run C-12 in my son's race bike and a 50/50 premium gas mix works well. Any advise?

Boost - How Much is Too Much

With a compression ratio of 8.5, you should be able to run ~14-15 psi boost pressure on 93 octane gas with the 'right' chip work. This is based on other boosted motors I've worked on. The fuel system is good for about 500 HP, so you have quite a bit or room there. The missing link in the mod picture is some sort of detonation sensor system. If you are going to run a lot of boost on pump gas, you need to be careful. Moderate temperatures with good fuel will probably be OK, but hot days with bad gas will get you into trouble with detonation, unless there is a feed back system to control ignition timing. I'm not aware of anyone using this type of system, however. Like you said, you can blend race fuel, but then it's no longer a daily driver. Good luck.

So you are saying that the 6# and 3# combo will work fine on race fuel right? Running race fuel is not a problem because my daily driver is a RoadKing. I bought the HD truck for fun and besides changing pulleys is easy.

Question

Isn't the stock Lightning upper pulley a 3#? If so, I'm wondering if there aren't some L guys that're using this setup. I was also considering this pulley configuration, but my HD is my daily driver and I can't make a mistake on this.
Help?

4WLHOGG,

I have already changed the stock lower and upper to 3#top and a 4# bottom. Diablo chip and cold air intake. It's awsome! That why I want to take the 4 off and add a 6. Hell I'd add an 8 if thought it would last more than a day!

Sounds great! Sounds very much like what I'll have. What brand pullies did you employ, and did you install them yourself?

Roots type superchargers produce power up to a certain point, then lose effeciency. A tuner or someone from Eton could probably assist you as to where this point is on the supercharger on the HD F-150.

The was a MM&FF article where they 86'd the Eton and put on a Ken Bell. I don't remember off the top of my head when the Eaton hit the wall, but it is in the article. 15-16 I think.

The KB blower rocks though-- 21#'s of boast! They had like 500HP and 600# of torque!

Ive been pegging 14-15 pounds of boost on my daily driven L for the past 4 month's. Its still running fine. Same engine, just lower'd boost level on the HD. So, it should be just fine for you guys too.
