HD Newbie

Hello all,

After a long debate with inner self I finally got my 02 HD/Black. I traded in my 2001 Screw Gen I XLT 5.4 also Black.

I have a few questions for those of you who have worked on their stereo systems. I kept all my old stuff from my Screw and I am planning to put them in my HD. I haven't had any time to really open up some panels and here's what I'd like to know.

1. Is the stereo harness the same as the regular Screw?
2. Other than the dealer where can I get a good all weather vehicle cover? Not the fancy HD logos everywhere... just plain
3. Any information on someone that built a 10" sub box that would fit behind the rear console. I don't want buy anything new since I already have all my audio gear with the exception of an subwoofer enclosure.
4. Has anyone noticed that while cruising at 70-75 mph, and let go of the gas, that it seems like the muffler is really restricting flow and thus makes the truck decelarate much quicker?
5. Anyone put Magnaflows on theirs and/or relocated their pipes before the rear wheel and side-exit?
6. Pulleys... can an average under the tree mechanic like me change them? Any warranty issues?

I got more.. but for now that should get me started

Let me be the first to welcome you to the club. Congrats on your purchase. If you look around you can find information on any of your questions. I did my pulley, chip, filter and plugs myself, and found it was not hard at all. The hardest thing was the plugs, only becuase they were so hard to get to. I removed the fueld rail to get to mine. I beleive I saw somewhere that someone was making a sub box for the rear console. As far as the wiring for the radio, I have no clue.

Welcome, chesterc! Let the fun begin.

The radio harness should be the same as a stock Screw. I'm pretty sure all the F150s and even Expeditions are the same. My wife has an 02 Expy and it has the exact same stock stereo in it.

Search the net for car covers. There are a lot of sites that carry them. You will most likely need to order a custom or semi-custom cover. Stock covers will not work since the truck is so long. Expect to pay anywhere from $125.00 up depending on quality, etc.

I see you are from San Ramon. I'm from Livermore and work in San Ramon. We need to hook up sometime. Send me an email.

JL Audio is making an airtight sub enclosure with 10" W3 sub for the rear console. It will retail for about $560!!!! How high can you go? It won't be available for about another month. Talked to my local shop and they will make a box for the console with a very good 10" sub and amp for much less. JL thinks an awful lot of their stealth boxes.

I plan to put a Dynomax stainless DI/DO on tomorrow. Have several friends that put them on their Lightnings. It sounds great. Not too loud but louder than stock and has about the lowest backpressure rating you can get and of course lifetime warranty.

Pulleys may be a warranty problem. If you can get your dealer to get you one, put the 2# Ford pulley (for the Lightning) on top. The bottom is all aftermarket. I suggest you pull any aftermarket pulley off before going in for warranty work.

Good luck and welcome to the board!
