More Features

After driving my '02 HDF-150 for several months, I've compiled a list of additional features which I would like to have on the truck. I've limited the list to items which I thought were reasonable (no 600HP motor) and possible for FoMoCo to add without much development and extra $$$. With the exception of IRS, the list is mostly parts bin stuff that is already available on other vehicles. The last item - more power, is probably at the mercy of waiting for the Lightning to get more power. The SVT folks won't allow the H-D to have more HP that the L. Anyway, so far the list looks like this:

1) Reverse Sensing System
2) Sun Visors: Larger & Double
3) Trailer Hitch
4) Sound System: Sub-Woofer
5) H-D Logo Floor Mats
6) HID Headlights
7) Sport Steering Wheel
8) Rear Sway Bar
9) Memory Seats / Mirrors
10) Boost Gage
11) IRS - Independent Rear Suspension
12) More Power (of course!!)

Any other reasonable ideas from the group?

From: Tampa, FL, or Memphis TN... depends.
I see your points... but some of them I like to go another way.

#1 is a gizmo I can do without.

For #2 I had my Tint guy put a nice 10" 5% (limo) suns trip at the top of the window. I can actually live without Sun Visors all together.

#3 is a simple bolt on should you require one. Took me 30 minutes and 12 bolts to get a Putman Class IV hitch on it.

#4 I'd rather go aftermarket.

YES to #5, #6, #9, #10and #12

#7... eh. I could take it or leave it.

#8) Rear Sway Bar -- Like a thicker Roll bar?

#11) IRS - Independent Rear Suspension -- NO WAY! It's a truck and can have a payload and pull like one too! An IRS would reduce what it can haul/pull.

Only thing I would add is a factory hard cover that opens/lifts electronicly and a GPS with a nice 6" screen inside.

"#1 is a gizmo I can do without."
Yeah, but have you ever driven a vehicle with it? My Windstar has the reverse sensing system. It's great! Keeps you from running over stuff / kids / Lotus 7's / etc.

"For #2 I had my Tint guy put a nice 10" 5% (limo) suns trip at the top of the window. I can actually live without Sun Visors all together."
If you were going to the dermatologist every six months, like me, you'd be looking for bigger sun visors. The visor is TOO short. When you swing it sideways, it doesn't cover the whole side window. It needs to be longer, or have an extension.

"#3 is a simple bolt on should you require one. Took me 30 minutes and 12 bolts to get a Putman Class IV hitch on it. "
Yeah, I installed the Class V hitch that normally comes on the SuperCrew. Mine was only 8 bolts, however. Where were the other 4? Most of my time was spent relocating the electrical plugs so they were out of sight, but accessable. It looked awful under the bumper. Anyway, the SuperCrew comes with a hitch, the Lightning comes with a hitch, why not the H-D???

"#4 I'd rather go aftermarket."
Maybe that'll give you a better stereo system, but it's a hassle. I'm willing to pay a few $$ more for a better factory system. The Blackwood setup coming in the '03 H-D would be a big improvement.

"#8) Rear Sway Bar -- Like a thicker Roll bar? "
How about just having a rear sway bar - there isn't one there on the H-D trucks.

"#11) IRS - Independent Rear Suspension -- NO WAY! It's a truck and can have a payload and pull like one too! An IRS would reduce what it can haul/pull."
IRS has nothing to do with how much you can pull / haul. The '03 Expy has a tow rating of 8900 Lbs as an example. You ever been on washboard road and hit the trottle? The truck ends up sideways. IRS will reduce the amount the rear end hops around on rough road. A modified Expy setup would work well on the H-D and can be designed to maintain the 'truck' haul / tow performance.

"Only thing I would add is a factory hard cover that opens/lifts electronicly and a GPS with a nice 6" screen inside. "
Yeah, those would be nice additions. I wish my SnugTop cover had a power lift feature. The GPS nav system is pretty neat. My BIL has one in his E55 MB. Great setup. I guess you can never have enough toys. Thanks. Later.
