FOglight mod Q

Just did the foglight mod where i spliced #5 adn #12 wires together to get the fogs on when the parking light is on, but now the fogs are always on. Is there anyway i can change something so that the fogs aren't always on when the headlights are on? I don't mind it with the parking lights, just want to be able to turn the fogs on and off with the headlgihts part. Thanks

I think, it's been a while since I've messed with this, that you are going to need to do the switch mod to achieve this. (taking the switch out and cutting the notches)
You've spliced into the parking light wires. Parking lights are still on while headlights are on, so therefore, the fogs will still be on.

What a coincidence!

I just removed the headlight assembly to perform that part of the mod where you can use the foglamps with the autolamp function.

There's NO WAY to get a little file in there to file down the clear plastic under the autolamp portion.

In the technical article he doesn't mention disassembling the headlight switch assembly, but at the moment I don't see any other way to file down the plastic piece without taking it apart.

I had a set of instructions at one time. I'll have to look and see if I can find them. In those instructions, you had to take the switch apart. cutting the plastic rivet things, filing, then supergluing the face back on to the assembly.

i think it would be easier to wire a switch between the two wires. that way you could turn the splice off and on. so when the switch is off it would be like stock. and when it is on it will be the way it is now with the mod. it wouldnt be too hard to do, and you could get a switch cheap. you would just have to find a place relatively close to the headlight switch to mount it. good luck.

# 356,

I hooked up my fog lights to work with the parking lights. I have a switch wedged right under the steering column (so I did not have to drill) I used some wiring from an old set of Piaa lights.
I have the wiring tapped into the park lights, battery (with fuse protection), & fog lights & ground to the relay. I did not want to do the mod to the switch. You can probably get a KC wiring kit.
Let me know if you have ???? Or need pics.

You need to do the switch mod. to be able to turn the fogs off with the headlights. It is REALLY easy to do! Even i did it! You have to take it apart and glue it back together, but there are alignment tabs to make it straigt, so its easy,

2000F150HD, thats just what i was thinking. I haven't been able to get back on here, and just got back from vacation in SC to see the replies. I'll probably mount the switch under the dash board somewhere out of sight.

flyarmy, its #5 and #12 for any of the years HDs will work

rhdf150, do you have any pics of where the switch is mounted? I don't wanna drill anything either. Temporarily the wires just have a part of the insulation stripped and they are taped together. So the fogs are always on. What i'm going to do is put a connector clamp on the 2 wires with a 2nd wire running out of the 5 and 12 with the clamps, and run those into the switch so i can have it function as stock or always on. Seems the easiest way to me rather than messing with filing the switch and taking it apart risking screwing something up and having to pay 75 bucks for a new one.

thanks guys.
