Pullies

As far as easier they are about the same. If you can afford the JDM I would go with that one it keeps the stock cage. I would also recommend going all the way with a 6 lbs pulley on the crank and a 3 lbs on the blower. If you are going to make a change Make a Change. RPM Outlet sells the upper and lower cheap they are the same type as sold by JL, PSP. One more thing I don’t recommend using the blower pulley tool sold by RPM Outlet as it bent my stock pulley. Take the front cone off and do the job rite. I hope this helps.

Cool Lower pulley

Mark here (LFP). Our Quick Change billet pulley kits are by far much easier to change.
Removal of stock cage has been offered by LFP, JL, PSP with absolutely no adverse effects. We have trucks running 60K plus miles with no problems.

Question

I'm new to the HD truck performance stuff so I have alot of questions. Please don't flame me if this is dumb.

I just changed the upper and lower pulleys on my 02 HD to 3# top and 4# bottom manufactured by ASP. This is what the guy at RPM liked and it seems to be working well but what is the purpose of the stock lower pulley cage? I took it off like the instructions said but I can't help wondering why Ford put so much engineering into the thing if it is not important. Also, there is a huge difference in the weight of a 4# ASP vs. stock. Does this have something to do with the cage?.

Your original question should be. Which pulley is easier to Un-install?.?.
From Experience The JDM pulley is a pita to remove. It ends up getting so tight you can't remove it. I've had this problem on two different pulleys on my truck. I also know of three others in my area that have had the same problem. I ended up cutting the pulley off the cage assy.
I've been using the ASP pulleys for the last year with NO problems.

Marks pulley from (LFP) would be a good choice too.

Heres a pic of my #4 that I had on my Lightning.
