Question 2002 HD ride quality?

A question for all you Harley owners: what is the ride quality like on on your trucks? I recently found out that I am going to be a father so I am going to have to replace my Lightning with something with more room and a especially a softer ride. I am afraid if the baby rode in the "L" it would be way too rough! The Harley seems like a good compromise in that the power is still there and it has more room and looks fantastic. Can anyone shed some light on this issue for me. Thanks

Still pretty stiff on the bumpies... The 02HD has the L SVT springs and a shock that is somewhere between a standard supercrew (mush) and an L (very firm).

I think you will be fine with the baby in it, but just know that if the road is really rough that it is going to bounce around quite a bit. The 20" wheels and tires help the handling quite a bit, but the lower profile tires are not as giving as the stock tires on a standard supercrew...

Find an 02 guy in your area and see if he will take you for a ride.

BTW, most, if not all, of your aftermarket stuff will fit the HD. You will have to modify your bassani prob...

From: Tampa, FL, or Memphis TN... depends.
SilverBullit,

I may be the best person on the 'net to answer this question! I got my 2002 HD Truck about 8-10 weeks ago, and this Saturday after falling in love with the HD I picked up a White 2002 Lightning off the show room floor.

Even more interesting... my wife and I had a conversation about the two tucks.

On the outside the HD Truck seems to be about 1.5' longer and a shorter bed. Not be much, but a bit shorter. You prob' already knew that, but thought I would toss it in anyways.

The HD rides smother than a Lightning. The best way I can explain it is the difference that I felt when I choose a Thunderbird. I drove a Thunderbird VS. Thunderbird "Sport". Same thing here, simular drive, but the "Sport" (in this case the Lightning) isn't as soft... you feel more of the road and know what the truck is doing. On the HD it sometimes surprises you.

I also took a 2k round trip... both my wife and had no problem sleeping when the other was driving. It wasn't uncommon to wake up only after the truck had been turn off and the door opened to get out to get gas.

Hope this helps...

Smile Nice Garage!

Zinc-Zag: Man, youve got it made! An "L" and a "HD" the best of both worlds. So do I correctly assume that the Harley rides considerable softer than the "L"? Or is the difference more subtle?
