As of tomorrow, my 02HD will have the following:
6LB JDM Lower (currently 4#)
Razors Edge ported TB and Plenum
Oil Capture Kit
JDM Flip Chip
Factory Tech Valve Body
Ford Racing deep tranny pan
I have removed the AF1 intake and gone back to a modified stock airbox. The stock one just doesn't flow, so I need to figure something else out. I want cold air -- period. I lost the 2lbs I gained when I went to the AF1. My autometer was showing 12lbs with the AF1 and even with 2 holes in the stock airbox, it still only reads about 10 on the autometer. Volant is redesigning theirs with the box which will be out in 2 months. I will just wait for that I think for now...
Still to come:
Catback exaust -- pretty much leaning MAC but may go magnaflow 14568 and custom tips
Flex A Lite electric fan (no waterpump upgrade)
Traction devices
maybe a 2" shackle drop

Well, to tell you the truth, I yanked the AF1 because I am a bonehead. Everyone (tuners) keep telling me that the cone filters are better because they flow a lot more air.
But... I want to try to figure out a way to get the stock airbox close while pulling air from the outside. I don't think I can even get close, though... I may put the AF1 back on until Volant redesigns their box.
Their current offering has a 9" filter in a large box (conical filter) but the filter is capped on the end. The tube that flows to the throttle body is trick, but it is for an 80mm MAF. They are redesigning for 90MM, and looking at a 10" open ended air filter as well as increasing the neck size where it takes air in from the outside. That little hole in the fender well becomes the choke point. Once opened up into a nice oval, you will get way better flow than stock and still be pulling outside air. They are supposed to be releasing the new Lightning version in october so it will be available before SEMA.
My belief is that yes, more air flow is better. I believe that even more hot air can be better. But I would argue that if you can get close to the flow of an open cone filter while pulling from the outside vs. the inside, it will outperform the open air element pulling engine air every time... That is my belief. Some will say I don't know what I am talking about, some will agree... In the end it is probably a handful of HP we are talking one way or the other. How well does your truck run when it is cold vs. hot? Noticeably better! Cooler is denser and provides more power. I am trying to get more air flow -- more OUTSIDE airflow...

I saw something in the L forum here (I think) that had an under the air damn intake. I wouldn't call it a "ram air"... but it was a opening that was getting air from well outside the engine area... and if you were moving-- very cool air from outside. Might be something to look into. If I can find it I'll post a link.
