Paint Protection Package

The Dealership I got my truck at offers a paint/interior protection package that is supposed to last like 5 years. It covers the paint (not the sticker flames though) and the interior leather. I think it costs like $300. I am wondering if it is a worthy investment (if they still let me get it two weeks after my purchase).

From: Tampa, FL, or Memphis TN... depends.
You can count my vote on the "Waste of Money" side... no need from paint protection, and I bet the leather is exempt from "normal wear and tear"

Also, what deductable is there?

Don't waste your money. Use it for mods!! Just keep it clean and waxed and you will be fine.

Check out Zaino for top of the line car care products

I don't know the dedutable but it is a "warentee". The only reason I am thinking about it, is because of a rock mark (white dot) just above the left fog lamp. Nothing but a pinprick, although it got me thinking. . .

I'm a firm believer in paint protection. I've used it over the years with great results. I have a Black '95 Buick Regal GS that I use as a work car now. I followed the recommended paint maintenance, after having the protection done and the paint is almost as good as my '00 HD F-150. This car sat in the sun during the day for it's entire life. I get compliments on it all the time, because it looks so good. I had the same thing done to my 2000 and it looks better than the day I picked it up. The type that I have is Auto Armor which supplies me with teflon wax as long as I own the vechicle. Good Luck

can you cook eggs on the hood without them sticking? I am a detailer and teflon has been proven to be a crock of ..... By people from cehmist, to house wives have proven it bad.It is in the wax becasue people know it as a household item, and thing it is all that since it keeps the scrambled eggs from sticking to the pan.

If you want a good wax, go buy a polymer. Zaino, Blackfire, Platinum ect. They have been proven to last the longest. If you want one that can be bought locally, go with meguiar's #20. The others ahve beter shine in my opinion. Not in everyone's

Caranuba waxes are excelent also. Mother's Meguiar's are the two best that can be purchased locally. I Use Meguiar's on cars I see weekly. Caranuba has a deep wet shine hat most love.

Shine is a catagory that is subjective. Everyone doesn't liek the same "type" of shine. Some like wet, some like reflective. It is all taste.

Dealers will try to sell you a "protection" package that last for 10 years. You think dealers are trying to rip you off on the car, ,yet you STILL check the box to add that 500 bucks to the car payment for the "protection" package. Know what that is? Most only do a coat of a Polymer Sealent. Nothing more than what you can buy for 10 bucks. In 10 months the sealent will be almost gone anyways. No wax will last 5 years. If there was a wax that could keep it's shine, protection, and bead water then I wouldn't have a job.

If you want more information a good source is www.autopia.ws It is a forum like this one, except all of the members are people who love detailing as a hobby.

waste of money. For the paint, if you take care of it with some zaino or whatever you choose, you'll be fine. For long highway trips, get a front end bra to protect from chips, For interior, just use leather conditioner and vinyl protectant and you'll be fine

as far as the leather ripping, i had a small slit worn in the side of my driver's seat from it rubbing on the trim piece, and they replaced the seat cover, no questions asked. Thats what your warranty is for.

Save your money. Just my .02$

Normally I'm with all of you and agree you should save your money for a tonneau cover (bed protection).

But.....

My truck already had the rust proofing and under body protection and I have to admit the underbody coating is sweet. It hides the otherwise rusty frame.

Listen to Samiam513. My dad worked as a Ford Technician for over 30 years at a few different dealerships. He even had to do some of the interior protection they sell. They bought $5.00 cans of Scotchguard and spayed the interior. The salesman gave the customer a piece of paper and everyone was happy. Especially the dealer who made a quick $500 bucks.

Also, beware. Checkout the company providing the protection and/or extended warranty if you go that route (I don't believe in either myself). Many of these are fly-by-night companies that won't be around when you make a claim.

For extended warranties make sure it is from Ford not a 3rd party or you may be sorry later.
