Harley Bug Shield

Where is the best place to find the Harley Davidson Bug shield? My dealer wants $150 with installation, and they have to install it. I thought I saw a site with one for sale around $80, although I don't know how I got there.

Damn!
Mine was $80 at the dealership. I just installed it myself though. Its EXTREMELY easy. The holes are already in the hood. Ya just set the bugguard on, pop in like 6 anchor things and put in like 6 screws and your done. Waay easy to be charging that much.

Try fordpartsonline.com or oemfordparts.com

What Harley#356 said. It took maybe five minutes to install, and 3 of those minutes were thinking to myself "It can't be this easy!"

But it was. Just go directly to the parts counter and order it... they will have no problems doing so. If they do, go to another local dealership.

Be careful wit hthe harley bug guard. Ive got it on my 01 and its started to rub away the paint in a bunch of different spot. The main the that pisses me off though is the center of the hood. Right behind the harley emblem, its recessed and it was close enuff to touch to hood the remove paint down the the metal. I didnt think it would have rubbed when I got it but it does. Somehow. it doesnt look like it when its parked. theres still a small gap between the back of the emblem and the hood but I guess when im driving it pushes enuff that it rubs even wit hthose little spacer nipples. Also keep your eye on the top of the grill shroud because it rubs there also. Im not the first to notice this either.

I haven't seen any rubbing on the top part of my hood. Only on one tiny little spot on the top of my grille shell between the passenger light and grille. But you can only see it when the hood is open, and this was easily fixed by adjusting the passenger side hood stop up a little bit, and the rubbing stopped. As for the top of the hood, did you use those 4 little stick on rubber bumpers things? If you put em in the right spots, you can't even push on the deflector hard enough to get it anywhere near the paint, so the wind definatley won't. I've had it on since the week after i got the truck over 2 years ago, and it only rubbed in that little spot, but i fixed that wtih the hood bump stop adjustment, and that little spot is worth all the possible rock chips i would have had. Just a few pointers for you guys who just got the bugdeflector

I have have rubbing problems with those bug shields in the past also. I personally stopped using them and just keep a good coat of wax on the front end of the truck. This way, my theory is, they will just slide off.

I hear you, Rick. I like the look of the HD deflector but my past experiences have not been so good either. Sounds like 356 did his right. I, too, just keep my hood and whole truck Zaino'ed and remove any bug guts immediately.

Maybe we should hire Josh to put 'em on for us

yeah but the bugs aren't what i'm worried about. Its the rocks

aight, you just have to pay for my flight out to you, and i'm charging 100 bucks a minute to insall, cuz it should only take me about 30 seconds to do it.

but anyway, if you put the rubber bumpers in the right spots, there is no way its gonna touch the top of the hood, and as for the grille shell, if you adjust the hood bump stops (probably out of whack from the factory anyway) it shouldn't rub there either. And if you wanted just as an extra precaution, get a piece of long velcro, and use the soft side and stick it along the bottom of the bugdeflector. This way it won't rub any paint off, and you won't be able to see it either when the hood's closed.

there's a way around everything. LoL

, yeah if i had money, there would be a future in mods for my truck!

but if you get one, just adjust the bump stops a little, and then put the soft side of velcro on teh bottom, and place the rubber stick on bumpers in just the right spots. I can probably take a pic of where mine are if you get one and wanna see where i put em. And if you do get the HD one with the logo, i say get it painted to match the truck. That would look pretty cool!

356,
So they don't come color matched? I know I've seen some Grey ones so I kind of assumed they were made that way.

I get a little leery of painting especially something that is on the front end.

I'll have to check with my friend at the dealer to see how much he can get me one for.

they don't come color matched. THe one's you've seen weren't HD bugguards most likely, unless they had them painted. But it will be worth it! Looks great with the little HD logo
