air intakes
If I may make a suggestion,
Take the stock airbox out and remove the lower piece. Go to home depot or lowes and buy a flange with a round side (for a hose) to connect to. Cut an opening in the box and fit the flange. Get 3" (or whatever fits the flange) brake hose and run it to somewhere behind the grille so that it pulls in air from outside the engine compartment. If you want to take it further, you can put a K&N panel filter in the stock air box to breath a little better.
I have put an aftermarket air intake on my truck. It works great when temps are cooler or when moving. Off idle from a stoplight, the engine compartment is heat soaked and I am sucking that into my engine....
If you want an Air Force 1, I will sell it to you for $100 (200 new) that is in perfect condition.
I wouldn't say that all airboxes are bad, but in the texas heat -- 105+ on the freeways due to cement heat, i don't want any engine compartment air in there -- especially fan wash -- which is what you are going to get with an open element...

ken800: If you still got that Airforce 1, I'm interested. I had a '01 Harley with K&N FPIK, but now I got a '02 supercab King Ranch. E-mail me at chaean@directvinternet.com. Thanks!
