???? about Mobil 1 full synthetic 5w-30
new to online been on the world for awile Well sunday at 2,859 i changed my oil i was going to use 5w-20 but could not find it any where so what did i do i went to 5w-30 and now i can hear some grinding noises comeing from under the truck like from around the oil filter and some ticking sounds on the pass. side of the motor . well to day is tuesday and the sound seem to have gone away do you think i shoud take it to the delar and have them check it out ? need to know because i got some money and it burning ahole in my pocket need more boost like a jdm 4# pully and a jlp air intake
I would recommend if you take it in for what you might even suspect as an oil related issue, change out back to the 5w20 you can get at Walmart. Everything in your documentation states 5w20 and you don't want to give them any reason to **** on your parade. I know it sounds stupid but it could just save a lot of hassle.
There are a few threads on this, particularly in the Lightning forum. Many people experience this when they switch to Mobil synthetic. I've got 6k miles and about to switch now to Mobil 5w30. They suggest using 5w20 because of fuel mileage, I'm using 5w30 as I am concerned about the heat in s. florida. Do a search.... I think they refer to the noise you are hearing as "marbles in a can"
definatle use 5W30 not 5W20 ford reccomending 5W20 is BS. it offers much less protection and was only done for thier benifit, not yours. i couldnt tell you about the noises. but i have been using mobil 1 since i got my truck and it is good oil. It could be one of those things that you never heard before because you werent listening..... or possibly happens after every oil change. a result of air bleeding out of the filter possibly???? i am not saying there couldnt be a problem but i know that it couldnt have been caused by using mobil 1 or the weight you used. I would reccomend that you keep using 5W30. it offers better protection. and i dont think that any ford tech would give you trouble over using synthetic oil. or using 5W30. because they know it is better for the engine, not worse. But i have seen people say crazier things. good luck

I just changed my oil too at 3,000 miles and had the very same noises from the engine! They seem to have gone away within a couple of days, I'm not sure really what the deal is but I wanted to let you know that you were not crazy!
I posted that a few days ago as well, when I did the same oil change. I left the truck running and went underneath. For me, it was distinctly coming from the tranny (front half, near oil pan). I haven't checked to see if it's still there or not.

I use M1 ful syn 5w-30. My engine seems noisy when idleing but whose dosen't. The sticker under the hood recommends 5w-30 so I wouldn't worry about the newer models and the 5w-20 issue. If the service manager gets ****y tell him you have the recommended weight. The dumba$$ probably couldn't tell the difference between 20 weight and 50 weight anyway.
I had my first oil change at dealership that sold me the truck. They used 5W30 and say they recommend it instead of 5W20 because of heat in Southern California. I did not notice any difference in sound (and trust me, I do listen to it).

Is that noise comming from the passenger side of the truck?
If so i had the same thing happen I had the a/c on and I heard the ticking also. There is an exuast pipe running from the headers to the catalytic converter and that pipe makes a ticking noise when vehicle is running. Rev the motor to see if the ticking noise raises with the rasing of the idle.
