Angry Innovation Fibergalss Cover

Hi All,
I just wanted to post my experience with Innovation Fibergalss. First off my sales person Mark was an awesome guy. Really helpful and cool. But I recived my cover today and found that it was chipped in the front corner closest to the cab on the passenger side. There is also a scrape on the top of the wing. I am generally pleased with the look of the cover but am dissapointed on a few other things. The hinges where the lid clips into the mounting frame sucks. They paint it so the first time you oen it up the paint chips off an looks hoorible with the white crap that is underneath. I must come up with a Mod for that. So i called to speak with the manager, he was very Rude and tried giving me the number of the shipping company he uses. I was explaining to him that the exterior box that they ship it in looked fine but the way they packaged it is not so good. There was about a 1-2 foot difference in the size of the cover and the packing crate. It must have been moving around inside the box. Before i could explain to him that i used my own shipping company (Roadway) he kept trying to ge me off the phone and didnt really care. He wouldnt even give me his name. The estmate is 800 bucks to fix and i dont know what to do. This is not the kind of customer service i was expecting. He hung up on me several time and generally didnt care. Here are some pics. Let me know what you guys think.

Adam,
My lid was chipped in the same spot!!! Rather than have it repainted, I improvised. I went to Advanced AutoParts and purchased Trim Brite door edge molding (part# T-3802 black), I cut a piece approximately 2" and put it in the microwave for 1 minute 20 seconds. I did this because it curls the rubber to better fit the fiberglass corner. It seems a little crude for a $900 cover, but nobody knows that it didn't come that way. It basically looks like a corner protector for when the cover is lifted. Besides, if your like me, you don't want to wait an additional 6-8 weeks to get the lid back! I will go to work tomorrow and get the digital camera so I can get you a picture.

Also, if you decide to have it painted, the corner can be fixed by patching the chip, blending a small section of the cover and then clearing the entire hood. This can be done for around $300. Whoever told you $800 is either subjecting themselves to unecessary work, or they plan on telling you they painted the whole thing but actually doing what I stated above, and scamming you.

Lid Damage

Sorry to hear about your experiences with the Innovation lid. I was trying to get my local lid dealer to get one of these for me, but he indicated the shipping was high risk. He deals with several manufacturers who use dedicated trucks to ship the lids to his store. He told me about one of the brands he sells that had a 50% damage claim rate, before they started using their own trucks. Now that they use their own trucks, there are almost no damage claims.

I recall when I called Innovation about their sport lid, they were kind of arrogant about the shipping, when I pressed them. They said that I should expect some shipping problems, and it wasn't really their problem. That didn't sound too good to me. Sooo, I bought a Snug Top lid. It's great! I hope things work out for you. Good luck. Later.

Kinda makes me feel guilty that my dealings with Innovation went off without a hitch... was told it would be here in 3 weeks--it actually arrived in 2 (they deliver on their truck to El Paso--I had a friend bring it on to me--any further east and you'll have to deal with the gorillas that work for comman carriers--good luck). Finish was very good--no chips, no scratches. Install went smoothly (I took it to my favorite body shop--they did it for $40 labor), at least until one of the guys dropped a wrench on it (duh!) and put a 2" scratch in it... anyway, their best painter touched it and re-cleared, color sanded and buffed the whole thing (for no extra charge)--now it looks like a mirror... near perfect--even better than from the factory.
