Just completed installing a Lightning Pulley on my "02 HD. It was very simple. Took about 1/2 hour. Rented a ASP pulley puller, loosened the Radiator Tank and the intake hose for a little more working room and did the deed! Noticeable power improvement, but it may take a few miles for the computer to adjust to the boost. Plan on putting in a K&N filter soon. Already opened up the airbox.

Blower Pulleys
In the past year, many manufacturers have released "upper" blower pulleys for the new Lightnings. These pulleys replace the stock pulley on the blower snout itself, with a smaller piece that turns the blower faster, increasing boost output. While this may seem like a good investment, many Lightning owners have found out otherwise- the hard way.
There are a few drawbacks to using the "upper" pulley:
1- Since it has a SMALLER diameter than the stock pulley, that means less belt surface area, which means more belt slip.
2- You must purchace a tool to install it that costs almost the same price as the pulley, that many times does not work.
3- One brand of upper pulley required grinding part of the snout ribs off for clearance.
4- Unlike ALL other Eaton blowers that use a keywayed blower shaft, the Eaton M112 used on the Lightning has a PRESSED on blower pulley, not a slip on pulley held in place with a keyway. Using a puller to remove and install the upper pulley can damage the blower snout, and many owners have already had to purchase new blower snouts because of this. Because of this exact problem, some shops will remove the blower snout and remove and install the aftermarket upper pulley with a press, but this also is not a good idea. According to both Eaton and Magnuson (the only Eaton authorized remanufacturer), to press the pulley on and off an M112 snout, requires a special tool that fits inside the snout, and supports the shaft bearing from within. This is the only proper way to remove and replace an M112 pulley, and unfortunately only Eaton and Magnuson have this tool. Using a shop press to do the pulley swap works, but will still damage the shaft bearing and cause premature snout failure down the line.

I replaced the stock upper pulley with a stock Lightning upper pulley. I used a puller designed for the Eaton Blower made by ASP. If you do a search on the Internet there are several different kinds. The old pulley came off fairly easy, it make a slight pop when it breaks free. The tool is designed to press on the new pulley. To be honest it was a hell of a lot easier than replacing the shakles!

Here is an example of a pulley puller that has been used with the Eaton blowers mounted on the GM 3800 Supercharged motors. It appears the pulley puller is designed to not load or damage the blower snout shaft bearings.

Grey Ghost! That looks like a better puller than the ASP although the ASP works very well. Changing the pulley is very easy with the puller. I wouldn't have even got my hands dirty if I hadn't put a little grease on the thrust washers
