Rear end problems!

My truck is 01 HD Screw and I have been noticing that when I make a left or right turn from a stop, the rear end feels like it slips and also makes a slipping sound. Has anyone had this problem or am I just lucky. If you have seen my gallery, then you know she was wrecked badly when I bought her. The wreck may be a contributing factor. My buddy(a mechanic) says it's the locking differential. He suggest I drive it until it gets worse or fix it correctly just before selling it. And with me that could be any day now. Thanks for any help and suggestions.

Havent had much of any rear end problems but ive got to say that after seeing your gallery that im gonna have to think twice before buying a used vehicle. Jesus you did a great job. I imagine that you do that for a living. Body work and rebuilds. Im just amazed at how it went from a ball of metal that made me want to cry to a perfect looking truck. Good Job my friend. Keep me posted on how much you get for that truck when sold. What did you pay for it in the first place? and how much do you think you put in it?

f150rebuilder,

It sounds like you have a limited slip differential, if so then you should either drop and replace your current fluid, along with a bottle of friction modifier, or just put some friction modifier into your current fluid. The friction modifier allows the limited slip clutch packs to slip smoothly around corners.

Db682,
Don't worry about buying a used vehicle. We fill out damage disclosure statements on our rebuilds, but we explain the damages before anyone gets too serious about a vehicle. Yes I do body and paint work for a living. Both insurance claims and rebuilds. I won't tell you what I paid for my truck, but I will say that I spent 3 times the purchase price on parts. Notice I didn't mention labor. I fix my personal rides on Saturdays and nights.

gryghst,
I thought you couldn't mix friction additive with the factory senthetic oil.

Thanks for the help!

f150rebuilder,

Even the factory synthetic fluid requires the friction modifier and you can get the bottle of fluid from Ford. However, be very careful with the friction modifier, work in a well ventilated facility and try not to directly breathe the vapors.

We stock the Ford friction modifier, so I will try that one night this week. Maybe I'll put on one of my old paint mask before using it. I have never put it in anything personally. Working with oil and painting don't usually mix.

Thanks !
