odometer problem

Hello, I'm new to this forum and I need some help. I have a harley and now my odometer just stopped. I have no knowledge about this and the dealer wants to charge me 80.00 just to look at it. Is there a sensor or something that controls this? All of my other gauges work fine but, my odometer doesn't. Is there a pin that connects to the back of the cluster? What is the color of the wire that controls the odometer. I'm really lost here ...please point me in the right direction! Thanks in advance!

OHH, sounds like somebody is trying to stop the clock. If you are trying to keep your miles from running i got news for ya. If you unplug the odometer w/ out doing a little trick then you wont be able to shift correctly and the onboard CPU still gets a odometer signal and will still keep track of the mileage. If you unplug it from the drivetrain you wont shift out of 1st gear at all. (check the drivetrain for loose connections, That could fix it if it accidently came out, but that shouldnt come out accidently). You will most likely need it to be recalibrated either way. The dealer has to cover it under warranty if you havent tempered with the wires yourself. No matter what year it is. I had a 96 t-bird that had odom problems and they gave me a new one and it reset to zero. You should have seen the bit ch it was trying to sell that. Everyone thought it was a chop. If you want to stop the odometer you have to find someone with the calibration programs and the right equiptment. They dont stop it they turn it back. If you want to stop it thats a whole nother ball game that I wont discuss online for legal reasons. But it can be done using jumper wires. Good luck and be careful behind the dash. Theres some expensive stuff back there.

Like i said be careful!!!!

Ok, I wasn't trying to stop the mileage on the truck first off. Well, I finally paid the dealer fees for the inspection and it turns out that my ecuhad a bug in it. I think it was the Hypertech programmer that i used on it that threw everything off. Right after i posted this, the shifting on the truck was off and it seemed to drag. the truck started to bog out so I had no choice but to take it to the dealer. well now everythig is ok and my truck runs great! Thanks for your help.
