Exclamation Engine Bay Cleaning- Need Help Soon!!!

Well the show is on saturday, and time is ticking by fastly. So far i have cleaned the entire underbody, spare tire, complete interior, changed the oil, rotated the tires, painted calipers, and the front end bra is in the dryer now to knock whatever little bit of dirt that may be on it off. Tomorrow i have to do the door sills, wash it, glass it, clean the windows, polish the chrome, clean the bed, and clean the engine bay. What i wanted to double check on is cleaning the engine bay. I picked up some simple green, and also some other engine cleaner stuff. Its not that dirty or greasy, but its got alot of dust on it. I'll use the simple green unless it doesn't do it well enough. Then i'll use the other stuff. What i wanted to know was what all should i cover up? I know i should cover the alternator, but i didn't know if i should cover the battery, and exactly where are the coil packs??? Am i missing anything else? I'll check this in the morning before i go to the car wash to do it, so hopefully i can get some quick responses.

So far it has rained every day i've been working on it, and i've had to stop in the middle of what i was doing and wait for it to stop cuz i don't have a garage. . They are also calling for rain 2morrow, so i may just wash it, then saturday i'll get up around 6 and wet the truck down, absorb it, then glass it. I quickly forget how much work it takes to clean this truck up to show quality. But it'll be worth it I have about 10 hours into it already and i'm not done yet.

thanks again

Use the simple green diluted in water. use a sponge and paint brush to apply. DO NOT SPRAY THE HOSE IN THE ENGINE BAY. Use the same sponge and brush with clean water to remove suds. dry (if needed) w/ a clean rag. Dont worry about covering up stuff. Just dont use to much water and dont mess with wire harnesses.
Good luck at the show. Do you win anything good?

Db682, thanks for the quick response. I forgot until i read a post in the general care forum to dilute it. Thanks for reminding me though. I would do it with just a sponge, but i can't get in all the cracks. I'll probably cover the alternator and stuff, and just use the mist setting to wash it off.

At the show 1 in 3 gets a trophy so hopefully i'll be adding one to my collection. I also get a free t shirt with a pic of my truck on it so thats pretty cool. I hope i get something, by the time i'm done getting her ready, i'll have put about 20 to 25 hours into the truck. so it'd be nice to have something to show for it. I'm in stock class 1990-2002 so i can't think of anything THAT amazing and rare other than maybe a stock viper or prowler that would be competition for me, but i see less HD's than those, and i think the HD is cooler looking too, but its all up to the judges. They have 48 classes that cover everything from modded vehicles to classics, to stang classes and vette classes so i dont' have to worry bout any of them. I wonder if i'll see another HD there.

If you can get your hands on a steam cleaner, thats what the dealers use and ive never seen a cleaner engine then a car fresh off the lot. They rent them at most rental stores.

yeah my sister's husband owns 3 used car lots, and my one brother just bought a 1990 olds off him and the engine looks like new cuz its so clean. But he's about an hour to an hour and a 1/2 away so i don't have time for that but it is a good idea for next time.
