Thumbs up Re: peanut butter for white marks

Hi there!
I forget who recommended using peanut butter for removing the white marks on the black parts after waxing but thanks, it worked great! I'm taking my truck to my daughters family fun day at her school today so I thought I'd try it. Here i was spreading peanut butter on my truck praying for the nosey nieghbours not to come out and ask what I was doing. They think I'm crazy now because of how much time I spend on it. They'd really think I was off my nut if they knew what I was doing.
Anyway hope no one says they smell peanut butter at the school because I will surely pee myself laughing if they do.

it helps if you heat the peanut butter up...

also, you can use:
dawn & a toothbrush
simple green & a toothbrush

you can use a pencil eraser to rub the white stuff off too! it works great!!

iwannaplay, just fyi, i posted that back in the thread i started about a month ago called "detailing tips", i heard it over on the L board a long time ago, and finally decided to try it and posted it here. There's a bunch of other stuff in there too that other people posted that are great ideas. But as for the peanut butter, my tailgate handle was 3 different colors. Black plastic that was faded looking, dark black plastic ring around the lock for somereason, and white from the liquid glass. The peanut butter fixed it right up and looks like new. Its been about a month and a half and still looks great and no streaky runs like black to black makes.

They think I'm crazy now because of how much time I spend on it.
Haha, i know how that one is. My neighbors and friends don't understand why i spend so much time cleaning my truck. I've got a show on saturday June 15, and i'll start cleaning it up on that wednesday. I'm gonna change the oil, rotate the tires, paint the calipers (any tips on that one???), clean the underbody, polish the rims and chrome all on wednesday. On thursday i'm gonna clean the glass, use the vinyl protectant, leather conditioner, vacuum, protectant on the seals, glass the door sills, and anything else on the inside on thurday. And on friday i'm gonna wash it, glass it, buff it, do the outside glass, clean the engine compartment, clean the bed and tonneau underside, unbend the front plate (wasn't me!), and put back on the intake cover and load up the truck. I'm gonna spend 3 days cleanin the truck, my neighbors will probably call a mental hospital on me or something. LoL. Sorry for rambling

when you paint your calipers make sure that you scotch up the surface ( by scotch I don't mean go have a drink ) it's like a brillo pad like you use on pots when you wash up it's used in the body trade to prep surfaces that are going to be painted so that the paint has something to key on to, sorry if this is something that you already know but a little time spent in prep saves a lot of problems later when the paint starts to fall off

Thanks for the info on the peanut butter. I had someone tell me that a few months ago but never tried it because I thought he was nuts (no pun intended). Guess I was a little narrow-minded. Oh well, live and learn!

Just wondering about why this really works and wondered if maybe peanut oil would work just as well and be less mess?

The peanut butter works great. It may take a little longer than just pouring some back 2 black on a rag and wiping it on, but the peanut butter won't streak down the paint when it gets wet from morning dew or rain, and make the plastic turn gray. Its the peanut oil that does the trick, but if you use just peanut oil, i'd worry about the same thing as b2b streaking, if you don't rub it off enough. I just put a glob of peanut butter on a plastic spoon and put it in the microwave for about 15-20 seconds to soften it up. Then i just rub it on the plastic with my fingers and wipe it off with a rag. But when i rub it in, you don't see any PB on the plastic cuz you don't need that much. Its not really that big of a mess. A glob about the size of about 5 dimes stacked up did my tailgate handle, 2 flareside steps, and my mirrors. It isn't a permanent solution though. After about 1 month (but we've had ALOT of heavy rain here the last week so it will probably last longer) the white showed up again, but i noticed that its not as bad. I'll do it right before the show this weekend, and it should last me well into july maybe beginnig of august. Its definately worth the small amount of time and effort to do it, cuz it lasts a while and gets rid of that ugly white on the trim.

logical, do you have a screw??? I'm assuming so by what i think your talking about with the trim. I don't know why they put that there, the s-cabs don't have wide plastic there, just thin rubber. But to answer your question, it should work. I use the PB on my rear bumper plastic, flareside steps, tgate handle, mirrors, cowl, rear window trim, and whatever else thats plastic that i am forgetting.

Hi there!
I used it on the rubber around the windows and everything. Everything I could find with white marks. LOL. It was great. Only thing was I figured I should have a warning on my truck for kids with peanut allergies. Do not lick, could have traces of nuts. LOL. Looked great til some kid gave it a shot with the firemens hose! Thx again 356!

no problem iwannaplay. just tryin to spread tips among fellow HD owners.

snoopy, i'm not sure how it would work on tires. I think it'll attract dust faster than if you just used regular tire shine. I use that silver tint tire shine when i go to shows. and the rest of the time i use the black magic wipes (works great, doesn't attract dust, last about 2 weeks) or some purple meguiars stuff i think. But then agian my friend waxed his maxima's tires before and it turned out pretty well so who knows. But i think just regular tire shine will work better, and it should get off any white marks if you have any on there.
