My HD peformance
Ok, I now have 200 miles on my 2002 HD supercrew. While I am very impressed with the truck, I don't think the performance is where it should be. Should it smoke the tires off the line? Unless I can't hear them, mine hooks up 100% and just takes off.
Second think I noticed, and this may just be the way a supercharger runs, is that when I go WOT, following a 1-2 shift, the supercharger seems to kind of fade a bit for a second or two. Once the rpms climb, it is stronger, but it seems to kind of languish on that shift.
Maybe I am expecting too much, but some of you are complaining about traction problems... I have no such problem, for sure.
It could be the temp, I guess, as I have yet to drive it in less than 80 degrees.
I also haven't really gotten on it that much. WOT has only happened 2 or 3 times as I am trying not to burn it up till it has a few miles.
I am definitely thinking 4 or 5" lower and a cold air setup of some kind...
thanks

many folks have noticed those trucks ( Harley And Lightning ) get faster after a good break-in. like around 3000 miles. But...
Chip-n-filter along with Lower pulley & a Xpipe should break those babies loose !!

Ken,
I think a lot of things come into play in order to make "tire smoke". Chips, pullies, road texture, and temperature are all contributing factors. However, look at it this way, no tire spin=better ET!

I have a 2002 Supercharged Harley with JohnnyLightning cold air intake, superflow exhaust and Diablo chip. I took it to Gainsville last week and ran consistent 14.4's into a 15-20 mph headwind. I took off a very heavy tonneau cover (something to think about if you want performance) the rear tailgate and the spare tire (very heavy) I couldn't keep it on the ground prior to getting to the track - but it hooked-up very well there and ran what I consider to be respectable times with 2500 on the odometer. I am putting on a 4 or 6lb pulley and expect it to run 13's .
I haven't run it at the track (yet). I am not running it that hard yet either. Once I have 500 or so on it, I will start to get on it more and more. I will get out to a dyno shop and get a dyno on it. Following that, I will put a 4# lower and a chip in it, and then re-dyno. Hopefully will get to the track some time, but I have never actually done the quarter so some launch tips would be helpful...
Once you are staged, stand on the brake, and hold the rpm's to around 1000-1200. When the last yellow light illuminates, take your foot off of the brake. Once you get rolling, roll into the throttle.
Now, if I could just do it that way evertime!
