Hey Folks,

I was checking with Ford again about the Harley-Davidson plaques and production numbers and guess what I found...

When I called Ford and gave them my VIN number. It came up as a regular F150 Super-Crew!

WTF is that??!!!!

Then she says "You sure it's a Harley-Davidson edition?". I said "Well, considering that it has Harley-Davidson inside and out, on the dash, on the windshield, on the seats, and on the consoles, you tell me! and oh yeah, did I tell you that it's BLACK?"

So now there gonna research it and call me back to see WTF the problem with my VIN number is!

I have a sneaky suspicion that many other Harley owners are in the same boat and that's the reason Ford never sent out the plaques and stuff! If you buy the truck and the VIN does not specifically identify it as a Harley, you get notta....

chill guys, the vin # won't tell you if its a HD or not that easily. I'm sure there is some record somewhere, but there isn't any significant code in the vin number cuz the HD's were build in the mix of regular f150's so the vin #'s are mixed up. Its cuz the vin counts all the trucks coming out of the plant, not just HD's and they didn't think to make our vins special and they didn't make all the years HD's in one big continuous non-stop run. If you check on this websites vin checker, it won't say its a HD. A reason they may not have done this is that the harley is considered an option or package when you look at your window sticker and its not a specific model like the Lightning or F150. its a harley EDITION. This is just what i can think of, and it makes pretty good sense. as far as there being a problem with your vin #, its probably just like all the other HDs out there, nothin special with the codes in it. No big deal. hope this helps

 

The VIN# does identify that it is a HD. Otherwise, if you total your truck, the insurance company is only going to compensate you for the value of a regualr supercrew. My insurance company new right away that my truck was a HD.

 

Outnumbered is right about the vin#. Hey outnumbered, did your insurance company give you a hard time about insuring your truck. Mine is so into cars, suv's and regular truck that they thought it was an aftermarket customized truck. They wanted me to have the NC318 endorsement for aftermarket customized trucks(like Mark III). I told them I wasn't paying extra for that and if it gets wrecked they would put Harley equipment back on it. By the way your truck looks great. I am going to look at a grey one Tuesday. Look being the key word!

No, I didn't have a problem getting the insurance. Actually, I had an interesting conversation with the agent at Geico; her father had a 2001 HD.

HEMIUK, According to the agent, the last four digits describe almost everything about the truck. This must be true because like I said, she new what it was before I told her.

 

Speaking of 2001 HD's, I have a buddy that has one for sale. It has a MagnaCharger (installed by Roush Industries), a hard tonneau cover and it's been lowered. It only has 14,000 miles and is mint. He purchased the 02HD, so that is the reason for selling. If anyone is interested, e-mail me and I will send you his phone#.

 

yeah, like i said, i'm sure there's some code in the mix, but that person at ford probably only got the basic info on the truck when they put your vin into the computer, not the full run on it, such as being harley edition.

 

Funny about Geico. When I called in to ADD my 2002 HD, the VIN didn't even come up on their computers. She made me go outside & re-verify ALL the numbers. 1 week later they sent my insurance cards and it's listed as: 02- F150.

For my 01 Lightning it says 01-SVTLight on the Insurance card.

 

maybe because the Lightning is a model (Lightning F-150) and not an edition (Harley Edition F150). All i can think of.

 

Hopefully someone isn't using the export VIN's to rebirth stolen vehicles..... stranger things have happened before.......

You guys talk about the troubles you went through with your insurance..... hey here in Australia... when I went to register the HDF-150.... they didn't even have the model up on their computer system at the Roads and Traffic Authority and the jerks made me put the ute over the weighbridge to check the weight because they didn't trust Ford's spec sheet..... now I understand why they didn't trust Ford..... welchers!!! On the insurance... my broker handled it... I just emailed him the pics..... and the insurers were so envious......!!!! No problems.....

 

Delmustator, does your windowsticker indicate Harley? If so, I think someone isn't giving or receiving the right VIN.

There isn't anything in the VIN that indicates Harley Davidson.

The last 6 positions are a sequence number that make every VIN unique. The VIN as a whole, serves as a key to a database that, among other things has everything that was on your window sticker,...trim, colors, seats, radio, etc...

 

OK gang, here's the skinny on VIN numbers. The VIN (vehicle identification number) is a 17 digit alpha-numeric sequence that is unique to each individual vehicle. The last six digits are the individual sequence production number that it unique to only one vehicle (kinda like the serial number).

The beginning 11 numbers go like this:
1st digit - Nation of origin
2nd " - Make
3rd " - Vehicle type
4th " - GVWR & Brake type
5 - 7 " - Model code (series)
8th " - Engine
9th " - Check digit
10th " - Model year (alpha, not number)
11th " - Assembly plant
12-17 " - Prod sequence number

I'm guessing that they are pulling from two different data bases. The insurance companies will get every last penny they can for insuring 'anything' and thus, they want 110% of the available information to provide adequate coverage (of their butts).
