Exhaust options

I went to a muffler shop today to see if our pipes could be shortened so that the tips exit in front of the rear wheels. It looks like it would be impossible to simply move the muffler back because of the way they have the pipe configured. A shorter muffer may work, but you would want to make sure before they go cutting on your baby! I thought it would be a simple task to try and replace some of that hp, but I guess not.

WOW....nice truck!

Looks nice. You sure your tires arent rubbing the fenders?

I noticed that the fenders look "fuller" compared to the 00s and 01s. I discovered that this is because the 02's were given small fender flares. Would it be possible to get these on the older models to help fill up the fender?

Hey outnumbered, I took mine to a local muffler shop here in town and tried to get a dual in-dual out flowmaster put on and he told me they would have to orderone. So after thinking about it a little bit we decided to put two single in-single outs on side by side and keep the stock tips and location. I've had it on for about two weeks and I love it. It sounds about ten times better. I couldn't tell that big of an hp difference but I think when you have that much it will be hard to tell. But, it sounds great!

Caughtyalukin,

Thanks for the compliment. The tires are not rubbing--at least yet. I just try and take it easy where I know there are bumps. As for the flares, I would assume that they are just the Lariat flares that also come on some of the F150's and Expeditions. I think they add a "beefier" look to the truck.

Silver Wolf, thanks for the info I will go back this weekend to see if that works. I am not so much interested in the mufflers as I am with re-routing the pipes.

ah, i just say leave the pipes where they are at. I don't think it would look very good with the nurf bars ending and then right after it the pipes. for the few extra hp you'd gain by shortening the pipes, you hurt the look. I'd say get a higher flow muffler instead. Your probably loosing more HP from teh lower air dam than the longer exhaust. just my 2cents. good luck.

Get the Magnaflow DI/DO, 14486 I think. That's what the Lightning guys use. That's what I put on my 01 for true duals. You will not be dissapointed, sounds fantastic.

outnumbered, i just thought of something that may get you a few extra HP. Since the lower grille is black, and you don't really notice it, do you think that if you took it out that the opening would let more air in with out the 8? bars blocking the intake. I think that the valance would still look pretty much the same, cuz you don't really notice the black lower grille bars. Just an option to get a few extra HP so you dont have to move the exhaust. Another thing (you dont have to worry cuz you dont have front tags, but in jersey) the front tag is infront of the lower grille blocking alot of air. On the Lightning, the lower grille opening is bigger, and the front plate goes on the solid part of the bumper instead of in the way of the grille. just tryin to help you guys out w/ gainin the ponies
Love the look of that 3/2 drop BTW.
