harley supercharged vs. lightning

According to all the info I have read, the only difference between the Harley edition supercharged 5.4 and the Lightning motor is a larger pulley to slow down supercharger on the Harley edition for less psi boost pressure. It seems to me you could get the smaller pulley and belt from a local ford dealer and get 40 more hp on the Harley edition.

According to my dealer,

The exhaust used on the HD is not the same as the one on the L. He told me it would not take much to get the additional 40Hps back.

But even with matched hp, the Lightning will still come out on top, IMO. Lightning will still be lighter, regardless of the est. weight for the Harley stated in mags. I have a feeling that the gear ratios between the trucks will probably differ as well.

On a side note, I have '02 H-D people already getting ahold of me talking crap about the Lightning. All I have to say to that is, "Yeah....ok." The Harley has a Lightning engine. So if they want to talk b.s about my truck, their words will come back in their face, 'cause they both use the same drivetrain. Morons.

This new H-D utilizies the coming-together of three different areas. Ford, Harley Davidson, and SVT. It's the SAME truck, just with different options and specs. Why can't we all just get along?? I have as much respect for the H-D as I have for the Lightning. I love 'em both. Just wish I could afford them both.

little info I have seen may not be much but its what I have heard
the pulley is diffrent
the air intake is diffrent
and the exhaust is diffrent
all can be modified to lightning spec's

the 2002 Harley Davidson F-150 is not SVT
SVT has nothing to do with this vehicle
they dont want anything to do with it

Its just what I have heard

What I meant was the fact that the H-D has the SVT Lightning drivetrain in it. Therefore, yes............there is a bit of the SVT 'engineering' encorporated into the package, even though it doesn't state directly on it. SVT is the part of Ford that created the 'L' engine. So technically you can ALMOST say that it's an SVT Harley version of the F150.

H-D exhaust: Ford and Harley agreed that an aggressive exhaust rumble was a most essential noise, product of a specially-tuned system that contributes mightily to the supercharger's success. Tubes from each exhaust manifold feed a dual inlet/dual outlet muffler ending in chrome 3 1/2 inch slash cut exhaust tips.

Cool Lightning upper pulley

Mark here (LFP). I offer the Lightning community many different mods. to go fast. One of which is a interchangeable upper pulley kit that includes 2 pulleys. One Lightning stock pulley that will be good for approx. 2#'s on the new HD. And one 1.5# pulley that will be good for approx. 3.5#'s of boost. These billet pulleys are interchangeable on a steel HUB that is pressed on in place of your stock pulley. I retail the kit for $269.00. Also available is Bassani SS true dual cat back for an awesome sound. Cold air kits that include a billet adapter, 12" power stack filter, new air charge sensor, mounting bracket, filter to fender inlet tube.

nice website. Question-I have been told that the lightning cold air intake will not fit the 2002 HD & companys like airaid are going to make a system for the 2002 HD. Any thoughts on this? Also on your site there is no applications for the 2002 HD, so if we order parts for the HD are we asured they will fit.

Dave, You took the question about the HD mods right out of my mouth. One thing I would like to do (if I can find an L tuner that is willing), would be to drive to a shop that offered installs on exhausts, pulleys, etc., as well as one that offered dyno testing to ensure chip performance and reliability. I would prefer to have a chip made while the truck is actually on the dyno, but I'm not sure if these tuners have that capability. To me it would be worth a little travel time to get everything done at one place. What did I tell you dave, my poor Mastercard.

Yep. It'll start innocently enough--maybe a $50 pair of rear lowering shackles to make it look "just right"... then, "It would be a shame to let all that easy horsepower stay bottled up" and add a chip'n filter... then pulleys to get that "cheap horsepower" and then gotta have exhaust... then.... It never freakin' ends! Did the same thing with the Cobra. Sat down and added it up last night--I've spent over $7000 on 'bolt-ons and baubles' . It's gonna be 'deja vu all over again' on the HD .

You should come to New England Dragway in Epping NH one friday night this spring. There are allways a bunch of Lightnings there, and you can check out what we do to our trucks to get more power. You can do all the same things so come by and check out the mods in person.

Cool HD mods

LFP will be updating our website to reflect which parts will work on your HD, which will be exclusive to the HD.
Modifying the HD will be made available in our shop along with Lightnings, Mustangs, Vipers, Vettes and others.
Headers, exhaust, pulleys, cold air kits, chips, torque converters, trans. upgrades, suspension, traction and more will all be available.
DynoJet is under construction and should be installed in short order.
