Chrome wheels

I would like to know how your chrome wheels are holding up after having them for a while and how long do you think they will look good ?

I don't think they will ever go dull or anything...the only problem I have had with my '01 HD is those darn curbs (Such as in drive thru's) You have to be careful not to scrape them up (Already have a little scratch on one) That's about it...they are the best looking rims.

From what I understand, the HD wheels are chrome plated aluminum, so they won't ever rust. Is this correct, or does anyone else know this for sure? They are heavy enough to be steel wheels, but I can't tell.

Unhappy Watch those right hand turns

I've got a few scrapes on my right/back rim also !! However, I've noticed a little rust on mine.
I like the 2002 rims the have a bolt pattern around the center cap. I might get a set in the far off future.

Eh...I have a rather deep scrape in one of mine...its not plated aluminum.

If it is..thats a BUTTLOAD of chrome over the aluminum

spoke with factory rep at Sturgis last August. Wheels are chrome plated aluminum - almost 5 lbs of chrome per wheel -

All that chrome is probably what makes them so darn expensive...I asked the dealer how much it would cost to replace one and they told me $1000 Little much...you can always buy one from karkraft or ebay though.

Amen to that. I can handle the alum Expy wheels I use for winter with one hand but the HD wheels are truly hogs.

I'm glad they aren't chrome steel then. They are heavy enough being aluminum!

For the scratches and rust..go to the hardware store and pickup a bag of #0000 or #00000 ~if you can find it~ Steel Wool.

Yes I almost choked at the thought of using steel wool on chrome at first too..but it WILL NOT SCRATCH IT.

It will however eat thru that rust like cake. Then just apply some mothers to it everytime you wash it and it wont rust again ~provided you dont hit the curb in the same spot next time~

I have a handfull of dings and nicks in my edges...but you can keep the rust away with the mothers..and remove any existing rust with the steel wool.

MAKE SURE ITS 4 zeroes or more. the other stuff will ruin yer day

I dabbed a little clear coat touch up on the dinged spots after removing the slight rust spots and you can't even tell it's there, not to mention I never have to worry about it again.

Hi there!
Thank goodness I live in the boonies. We don't have curbs here and when I drive to the city I avoid them at all times. It's just those darn carwashes. I have found one that the guy watches to make sure my rims don't touch the bars. Seeing as I drive mine all winter, I have to wash it every 2 or 3 days. You know Ont. winters. Have driven in the storms and had zero problems.(Knock on wood). Think I'll try the clear coat. Was thinking clear nail polish but that must be a woman thing. LOL.
Thanks,
Cindy.
