De-tuning
OK, we know that the 2002 HD is de-tuned to 340hp. However, my question is how did Ford accomplish that
Would a chip overcome it, or is it in the hardware (cam, crank, valves, etc)
What do you HD owners thing ?

I'm told the only difference is the pulley on the S/C. Almost all Lightning mods will work on an '02 H/D. Check out www.powersurgeperformance.net for mods, he has about everything.

Truck Trend's article mentions that a slightly smaller air intake in the lower valance for the intercooler is responsible for some of the detuning, also. Again, nothing a bit of tinkering wouldn't fix.
Here's the explanation from the 02/03 Motor Trend.
a. Smaller intercooler grill opening = less cooling potential
Altering this would require new front bumper or possibly adding electric cooling fans
b. Full length vehicle exhaust.
Remedy: reduce exhaust length or install new muffler.
Caution:!!! More than a few Lightining owners (myself included) suffered some perceived loss of low end torque after installing a hi flow exhaust.
c. Larger intercooler pulley= turns slower less boost.
Change the intercooler pulley however the upper pulley can be tricky to R&R. Lower pulley change seems more common. But what about the belt size???
Interestingly - no mention of computer detune
There you have it folks
