Angry Re. Winter Driving

Hi there!
So far, so good, but today I was fishtailing up the 404 because mommy dearest had to go home. I took her home and it wasn't pretty. Accidents all over the place. Maybe some weight in my back end would help. I can't afford the tires so I'll see what happens. Best wishes to all you guys and hopefully see you next year.
All my best,
Cindy
By the way, I can't
figure out how to get my pic of my truck on here!

We have not had any snow in Boston yet. I have my 3 60 lb buckets of concrete & 3 50 lb bags of sand for weight (set aside for action). When I took my truck out last year during a storm, it drove fine. I put it in 2nd gear (with all the weight in back)and test drove up a hill and it did fine. Best of luck up in Canada & stop sending down that cold air!!

(I am also trying to add my picture(tried it a couple of times, but I will just have to take my time)

I swapped the tires for some expy rims and good ol' all season tires. I still need to get some weight in the back. Ironically there is a reason for the goofy 17" rims on the "upper" model F150's. The 16's I have on the truck now barely clear the rotor gaurd in the back and the calipers in the front. I would assume cheaper (smaller) brakes with the XL trim package.

Cindy: I put 6 bags x 60lb of concrete mix in back snug up to front of bed and it makes a big difference. Even though the Goodyears are supposed to be M+S all season, they're way too slippery on snow and ice. I ended up getting 4 F150 alum rims with General tires for $800 cnd last year and far better in snow than the Goodyears. I only did about 3600k last winter but it was worth it since I did need a truck off and on.

I had my old Expedition rims on & the truck did not look good. (Lasted 3 days) I know you have to make a sacrifice sometimes. They usually have the roads cleaned up and I only would have needed 4-wheel drive 4 times last year. If you ask people with 4 wheel drive vehicles how many times they used 4 wd it will probably average under 10 times unless you are up in Buffalo NY right now.

yeah Buffalo,

Hey, it wasn't too bad. We only got seven (7) feet of snow at our airport (I'm a mere 10 mins away from it). I saw 10 times more 4X4's in the ditch than 2wd. As long as you don't drive like an A-hole, 2wd gets you along just fine.

yeah, unfortunately, that time of year is here again, and the poor hd has to go out in the snow and salt. i would get stock f150 rims to protect my 20's, but i cant afford an extra set of rims right now, and i don't know if i wanna sacrafice the looks, i guess ill have to do like last year and go out and wash the chrome about every other day.

Looks aren't a problem with the Generals I got with the alum rims--it may be an optical illusion but they actually seem to fill the wheels wells more than the Goodyears, maybe because there's more rubber visible. They're the same size as the spare tucked under our bed. The truck still draws double takes even without the regular rims--the tonneau helps.

Similiar scenario, but I was able to find some rims from an Expedition that has the same style as our 20's. I think they came from a 2000. The only problem is that they look very similiar to the Dakota rims
