Warranty

Looking at all the mods that I may avail myself to, such as the AirForce1 kit, redoing the exhaust system into duals, Superchip, etc....has anyone had problems with warranty work?

I had to put my HD SCrew into a strange shop this weekend while on a trip due to a possible transmission problem...felt like the overdrive/4th gear lockup was surging...dealer couldn't make it happen, and it hasn't done so since. While I was sitting there, a guy came in with a SVT Lightning, that had some exhaust mods and chip work done. The service writer told the guy that the engine/drivetrain had the warranty void due to the mods. Well, it got warm, but the cops didn't have to be called. Guy stomped out and left 15,000 miles worth of rubber on the pavement.

Question...thinking of going to true dual exhaust with the Flowmasters, but not at the expense of a hassle everytime I need some work done.

Thoughts?

It is my understanding that Ford cannot just void a warranty outright. They must prove that the problem is being caused by the mods. I believe this is covered by the Magnum-moss act.

On a different note. I talked to the service manager at a local dealership here. I asked hime specifically about improving gas mileage without voiding the warranty. He said the Cat-back system will not void the warranty. And a K&N FIPK system will not void the warranty.

Although he did say that if I had a Superchip in the truck to remove it before bringing it in for service. I assume that was just to prevent any hassles though.

The dealership in the first post of topic conmmitted a federal crime. The dealership or its employee's can not void a warranty at all. Now the dealership can say that a modification caused a warrantyed part failure and in that case the covered part would not be covered. But the dealership would have to look at the problem first. Unless the customer told the service advisor that a mod. caused the warrantyed part failure, How did the service advisor know that the repair was not covered. I have been a Ford service advisor for almost 10 years, if i know what was wrong with every vehicle on the service drive, man my life would be so much better. That service advisor needs to be kicked in the a$$............................................... .

From what I could gather eavesdropping, this guy (looked to be a college kid, and I was in a college town..how they afford trucks like this I have no idea) has been to the shop before for service, and this was a continuing problem.

Like Deep6blue said, the writer told him to pop out the chip when he brought it in, and I did catch this guy had an aftermarket chip installed.

This HD SCrew is our first NEW vehicle in like 20 years, and I just don't want a hassle each time the truck needs service.

Like my hawg, with aftermarket cam, ignition work and carb upgrades, never a problem getting work done when it was still in warranty.
