03 Harley F150 fuel problems

Hi, I’m new to this site but I’m having a problem I own a 03 Harley F150 with a SC 5.4L. My wife drove my truck to work one day and on the way home she said it acted like it wasn’t getting gas and shut down and it would start run for a second and die so we towed it home I thought the fuel pump went out so I pulled the tank and replaced the fuel pumps and put it back in went to start it and same problem. I replace the inline fuel filter and no help, so I purged the fuel rail thinking the might be air in the line and it didn’t seem like it had adequate pressure. I replaced the battery and fuel pump relay and still the same problem I bought a fuel pressure regulator but have not put it in yet. I did noticed that when I push the accelerator when I start it it sounds like something drags the motor down and it immediately dies. I believe the only thing left would be to change the regulator or fuel pump check valve but don’t want to replace it if not the problem and am starting to hit a brick wall on what could be the problem. I already dumped about $400 in trying to fix the problem and would hate to pay a shop to fix but running out of options does anyone might know what’s going on?

Check your fuse boxes for corrosion. Specifically the one inside by the kick panel. Notorious for leaks then odd issues.

Good luck.

Well checked the fusebox, fuses, relays and all is good there. The truck starts like normal rpm goes up then down at first start then either stalls out or rpm goes down and then surges back up and then goes down and stalls. If I tap the accelerator it stalls and sounds like the motor drags down like it’s starving for gas, or lost fuel pressure. Wondering if it might be the pressure regulator malfunctioning? Also I turned the ingnition on and can here the pumps running but it’s very quiet and they are new. Only things left that I can think of would be the pressure regulator or the tank pressure sensor?

I would use a pressure tester, and check the fuel rail pressure.

Attached is a helpful chart...

might want to check the codes before wasting any more time changing random made up issues

Well bought a pressure tester to test fuel pressure on the truck and will let you know what I find out after I do the test. the person that commented about “checking the codes instead of changing random made up issues” I have checked the codes and there are none. the trucks motor is new and got replaced at 100k (cost me $6000) cause the timing chain went out and was on the side that bends the valves and the motor has less than 25k on it. It has a SVT supercharger, SCT chip with hand held programmer, K&N ram air intake, EGR valve and boost solenoid bypass. Never had a problem with it till the day my wife took it to work and it broke down on her way home. Replaced the fuel pumps, FP screens, in line fuel filter, relays and fuses. When I start it the RPM go up then back down on the Guage then stalls or will go up then down on gauge acts like it’s going stall and then surges up again goes down and stalls like there’s not enough fuel pressure to supply it. And if I tap the gas it stumbles and stalls out. That’s everything going on with it.
And to the One making the smart a— comment, codes were checked and no it’s not “random made up issues”

Try a different mass air flow meter, sensor in between the air filter and the intake....
I had my truck tuned and the Mass Air Flow needed to be changed and it would literally make my truck run like ****, Got the new Mass airflow and back in business.... Do you have the Blue ant OBDII reader... $100 bucks on amazon, you can see the codes its giving you on your phone.
