Real world towing with an HD F150

Despite all the lowered tow ratings on the Harley-Davidson F150 I am going to put mine up to a bit of a challenge. I recently bought a 2008 Jayco Jayflight 26BH. It weighs 4500 lbs dry and about 4900-5100 wet plus food and luggage. It will have about 600 lbs of tongue weight. I will be using a weight distributing hitch on my 2007 HD F150 AWD which has a disappointing limit of 5100 lbs. I have my 4x4 blocks removed in the rear to level the truck. But may put them back in if it sags too much.

Things I have noticed: spring codes... My truck has the same spring code as my brothers 2005 FX4. They look the exact same too. Which kind of gets rid of the word that Harley springs are lighter.

Tires: the stockers are a little bit lower rated then the normal f150 tires. Not by much. But I have a set of 305/40/22"s with a higher rating of 2600 lbs at 50 psi. So more rating then the fx4 18"s.

I don't see anything else that would limit the tow and payload ratings of these trucks to the point that ford has done. Maybe the awd system? Well the 2wd model has only 200 lbs more rating... Tire pressure is all I can figure. They recommend only 35 psi. But the fx4 recommends 40 psi giving it a higher rating... But maybe I am missing something...

Anyone else actually use their truck as a truck? This summer I plan on using mine!

It's the AWD system and the wheels/tires that limit the tow ratings.

I would think that the forged aluminum wheels would be stronger then the cast aluminum wheels. And the tires have a very similar weight rating compared to the other models. If you upsize a little like I have (without adding any height) you actually have more capacity. The stock tires have a rating of 66 lbs less per tire. My up sized 305's are rated 66 lbs higher then the LT 18" tires. So really not too much difference.

Stock pirellis: 2469 lbs
Stock fx4 LT tires: 2535 lbs
My 305/40/22 Cooper Zeon ltz: 2601 lbs
