The scratches aren't there for no reason...it's because you all aren't giving the care your trucks need.

First off...if your truck is very dirty...don't just scrub it...do a pre-wash and be delicate to remove large dirt deposits. Then you can wash again and scrub. These large deposits can scratch the truck.

Second...be sure you are using a 100% cotton towel MADE IN THE USA. Those ones made in pakistan say 100% cotton...but that's a bunch of BS. (Only use liquid detergent to clean...none of that powder stuff)

Third...use polish or swirl remover to remove fine scratches...I know Zaino makes some quality products

Hope this helps you guys out!

Always remember, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER use liquid detergent like dawn. Unless you want to remove your old waz, Dishwashing detergent will remove any old wax from your car. Always use car wash liquid which will not remove wax products. If you can find it, try the pro-products cherry suds. I found they work very well and the smell makes you want to drink it. I rent a building to a guy who is a pro rep and get to try all their stuff. They have some really neat detailing products. The best glass cleaner i've ever tried also.

I think we are trying, thus the thread... RickC

Right, know that already.....RickC

Probably keeps the scratches down, but don't like the lint...RickC

Third...use polish or swirl remover to remove fine scratches...I know Zaino makes some quality products

Zaino Z% doesn't begin to touch whatever it is in my hood....RickC

Hope this helps you guys out!

Rick...if the scratches are that bad...you are going to have to get them buffed out - If I was you...I would bring it to a shop to diagnose and find a cost to repair scratches if they CAN buff it out. Buffing will obviously be much cheaper with similar results...but to make sure you can buff them out...run your fingernail perpendicular to the scratch and if the scratch catches your nail...a body shop is going to have to sand and repaint the entire panel which can be costly for a quality job. Hope this helps

Yeah, my problem isn't scratches, it's spots. And I can't figure out what they are. They look like a water spot that has dried during washing. You know how if you don't rinse well, or dry it quick enough on a warm body car and you get those spots with the white edges? That is pretty much what it looks like except they are embedded into the paint. I have even tried buffing with polishing compound. My last resort is rubbing compound, but man, that's harsh. I think I am going to see if I can find a professional detailer in my area to get their opinion.

Thanks for the input.

did you try a claybar

anyway, you say you don't like the lint from the towells. You might be better off though using the 100% cotton USA towells and having the lint, than risk scratching up the paint even more. Then just pick up a california car duster and go over the truck real quick and about 30 seconds later, all the lint is gone! Plus the cali duster come in really handy for keeping the truck clean inbetween washes. My truck can go a week without being washed and still look like i just polished it if i just use the cali duster every day as long as it doesn't rain. And i can go 2-3 weeks without washing if i use the cali duster daily and use the z6 quick detailer every other or third day and the truck looks like the day it was polished. Of course as long as it doesn't rain And my truck is daily driven and no garage or cover. Just some suggestions for ya

yes, I used a claybar to start. Might have to get me one of those dusters, especially by spring. Lots of pollen around here then.

After reading about everyone complimenting the Absorber a while back I pulled mine out and started to dry my truck with it. I found I had to make 3-4 passes to get all the water off (I have 6 coats of Zaino so the water beads very nicely).

I have a high quality chamois that I use for drying and it is the best thing I've found. I can dry with 1-2 passes streak and swirl free.

I use the micro fiber towels to remove Zaino polish and I bought a couple to do the windows now. They work better on glass than anything else I've used. I use window cleaner and 1 towel to wipe off most of the cleaner residue, dirt, etc. I use the second towel to finish it up. The windows are streak free with no film.

I use the zaino polish on the windows. everything else i've tried didn't get rid of the interior haze on teh front window

i also use the abosrber and one pass gets it all for me. The little that's left evaporates a few seconds later and its spot free

I love the absorber...it's easy to slide across the truck too, unlike most chamois

o yeah, another plus to the absorber, you don't have to let them dry. just wring them out and put them back in their tube containers and trow em back in the truck i'm lazy like that

Talking Good One!

That was hilarious!
After my WRECK, hurts to say it, I have some very harsh looking swirl marks from the buffer on the passenger side, just wondering if Zaino would take care of this problem? I've heard so much good stuff about Zaino I think I'll have to get some as soon as money allows! You can only see the marks in very bright sunlight and when the sun is hitting the passenger side of the truck it makes me cringe! I don't want to say anything to the Ford place cuz I don't want them to touch it again. They did a good job on everything but the buff job! I've tried the colored turtle wax and Meguiar's Scratch-X but can't seem to make it go away. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

the z5 might lessen it, but your best bet would be take it to a pro detailer and have him buff them out permanently then use the zaino over that for the best results
