Ran the 2001 HD in the 1/8th mile
Actually the wife bracket raced it while I raced my Mustang. Her first pass was 10.59 @ 65 MPH then the rest were in the 10.60's at the same MPH. I thought it was pretty impressive given the size of this truck and only 260 HP. My friends Dakota R/T makes 230 RWHP and was only running 67 MPH but he weighs 4200#. I would bet that my truck is putting down at least 240 RWHP to the wheels which has got to be close to 290 at the crank. What do you guys think?
The only thing I've done to the truck is pull the air silencer and install my old K&N filter out of my Mustang.
Has anyone bought tires yet? Tirerack.com has the listed for only $123, can that be right?

the price on the tire is correct.
Retail at a Goodyear store is $165.00
Ford tire price is like $180
so the tire cost the retailer like $110.00
possibly lower price than that.
but remember you have to get someone to mount the tire if you order it by mail.
and since you did not purchase tire from the installer they more than likely will not stand behind the install. and from what I have seen, most tire installers have know idea how to install a 20" tire on a chrome wheel without damage to the wheel or the tire or both. However there are some good installers out there. Wheel tec in Tampa, FL has done a great job here, and I am sure others will follow. Its a funny thing here in Tampa, a company (Hunter) sells a machine that installs 20" tires on 20" wheels and the salesman or the company he work with has no idea how to work the machine for 20" installs. So they call Hunter and Hunter sends 2 men to the place that purchase the machine and it take both men about two hours to mount four 20" tires, Funny thing these jack a$$ companys sell the machines and dont have any idea how to work them, be careful when having your tires installed

That is to funny that no ones how to mount the tires I am a manager at a good/year store and I have mounted almost every size made to man I just did a set of 22" for a car we have a no touch michine that we use and it does on even touch the outside of the rim. So when you go out to find some one to mount up your tires don't go to the guys that don't have a no-touch michine (sp).
I looked and we get 185.00 per tire mounted and balanced at my shop.
good luck to all.

Hey.
I took the my HD to the track a week ago... best 1/4 mile time was 16.17 - no traction though.. Hopefully it will pull 15.9s at the other local track - it has much better traction!
I was a bit dissappointed, hoping it would go a bit faster.. but it was a full second (and more) faster than any other comparable truck out there... the only one faster was a 2000 lightning - it was running mid 13s..

Wow I expected to have to pay a whole lot more for tires when it came time to replace them. Nice to hear it isn't near as bad as I had expected. On mounting tires purchased by mail order, I order tires for my track car from Tire Rack all the time and get the local Discount tire to mount them. They have no problem at all doing so. I get the sticky Hoosier track tires from Tire Rack and not Discount Tire becuase Tire Rack can heat cycle them before I get them and Discount doesn't offer the service. On the trakc tires the heat cycle and then cool down before putting them on the track makes them last longer. All of that has nothing to do with street tires. When I get street tires I check the price at Tire Rack and my local Discount Tire store has not problem matching the price for me, so I give them that business. I would try a Discount tire location for mounting the tires, talk to the manager first and let him know of your concern of extra care being taken with the expensive rims and he will put his best guy on it and they will take extra care in mounting them. At least it has worked that way for me up till now, except I havent been mounting on 20's yet. I assume it work out the same on those. Take care,
