I got my 2001 HD last week, I still haven't figured out for sure what the extra lock cylinder is for. The truck key fits it and will turn the tumblers. I'm thinking that it might be for the bed cover that came with the 2000 HD's.

Any info on this?

Thats exactly what it is. Dont think its supposed to come with the 2001..but maybe you will get lucky

I also got a lock with mine. I asked the salesperson about it and he thought it was the wheel lock. If anyone knows if we are getting bed covers or not please let me know. My dealer is a bozo!! 2001 HD supercrew

The locks are probably the ones that were supposed to be in some of the Y2K gloveboxes. Ford said no tonneau for '01.
I'd give their hotline a call.

 

everything I have seen is that the 2001 models are not getting a bed cover free from Ford, but Leer may make a cover for the supercrew that you can purchase and if its anything like the 2000 model its would be worth it. keep the lock and maybe this will happen one day.

 

I've seen a leer cover on an '01--looks nice. The handle and lock are on top. The 00 model seems to be different--can't tell from the pix where the lock is--anyone who has their's installed help out? Thanks

 

Lock is directly in the center on the back of the cover.

It sits flush with the cover.
