Question Mods for the HD!

Hey everybody, I forgot to put this on my last post but does anyone have any suggestions for exterior mods for the 00 HD? I'm getting headlight covers and just saw a pic of the clear tailights and they look pretty sweet but I'm not sure if they would go good with headlight covers? I will probably get a F1 hood from American Auto Designs around Christmas, even though that's a while away! Does anyone else have any other suggestions?

Can't tell you too much about performance, but as far as appearance: forego the light covers. Get clear corners, cheap at autodynamic.com, the bug deflector and 4 piece ventvisors look good too. And definately get the 2001 Lightning tail lenses! I just put Harley decals on the rear window and tailgate, agrv8tn added some to his too that are the best I've seen. As for the hood, "Are you crazy?"

About the hood, why would I be crazy? I mean I don't think it would mess the looks of the front up, I actually think it would make it look a lot better. I would keep the original hood of course. I got a pair of ventvisors from a friend but it's just the 2 piece set and I can't just buy the extended cab part, but it looks pretty good with just the 2 over the doors. I will be getting the windows tinted pretty soon. I'm still not sure about the clear corners, although the tail lenses are sweet. What kind of decals are you talkin about on the rear window and tailgate? Does anyone have pics? Anyways I'm not crazy just tryin to make my baby look as good as possible. Oh yeah and I'm thinking about runnin straight pipes!!!

Jax,

I like that, I've never heard that analogy before. I'll have to use that to rationalize the new exhaust on my Road King.

"Gee hunny, I don't want to pay the $700, and I hate the way it sounds, but I just want you to be safe when you ride with me...." (BIG GRIN). It just may work!!!!!!!!

Mike

I really dont see the need to run straight pipes.

1. It will make the truck slower
2. Your truck isnt modded enough to utilize the gains of running straight pipes on the top end.
3. Its illegal to remove your emissions devices <cats etc>
4. Its annoying to anyone around you. Bikes need straight pipes to be heard for safety..your 2+ ton truck doesnt.

Not that I dont mind some vehicles having straight pipes. Modded cars that need the free flowing exhaust, race cars, etc. However to just rip out all the exhaust for the sake of being loud with no performance gain. Leave that to the ricer import crowd.

Harleyboy,

I have a set of brand new vent visors for the back side windows if you are interested in them. I didn't put them on mine. Email me harley8784@aol.com if interested.

Why not use the rear ventviors? I have them on mine, and thinks it looks better. Just my opinion. Did you even check out the look? If not go to http://photos.yahoo.com/ulmergeddon

Combination Door Lock:

Went to L and expedition board.
Ordered the combination door lock and installed it last night. Maybe 1.5 hours.
Easy, easy, easy and looks great. No more lockng the keys in the truck.

I had the vent visors on the rear side windows on my 97. They looked okay, I wasn't crazy about the look, besides I never open those windows anyway so decided not to install them on this truck.

i think the truck already looks good. i wouldnt bother with vent visors. unless you actually need them, but HDs come with air so i dont see why they would be a necesity. i think you should get the clear corners and lightining tails and headlights. also get tint on the front. i think the hood looks good but i wouldnt bother. it is too expensive. plus the stock hood looks just as good so why bother. as far as performance goes get a volant cold air intake, a superchip, and headers. that would be a good setup. and is what i plan to do . just my sugestions. have fun with your HD.

I'm not crazy about vent visors either but ordered for the front windows anyway since I prefer open windows to air cond; in wet weather water will drip onto arm rest and I'm a smoker Also ordered the logoed bug deflector--saw both on a 01 HD, very clean and classy looking. Only other addon will be the Ford HD bedliner before the tonneau gets installed. The same 01 had a Leer on it and looked really sharp altho they had some trouble getting it opened due to slight misalignment of the catches--same dealer will be installing mine Only other mod would be the K&N. Don't want to fool around too much with the stock look since I think it looks fabulous when clean--no improvement necessary
