Front License Plate holder
I didn't like the look of my Y2K HD with the front license plate holder, so I took it off. Looks much better. Did notice a little abrasion on the front fairing after only 400 miles. My question is - Has anyone else taken there's off(license plate holder)? If you have, have you been bothered by the police for not having a front plate. I assume almost all states require a front plate.

I plan on doing the same thing. Was it hard?

Actually, Texas is one of the few states that do rerquire a front plate. I know a guy that has a h-d and he took his frontplate off as well. He said he hasn't been stopped yet. I guess I'm to scared to remove mine.

It was fairly easy to remove the bracket. There are 4 tabs off the back of the bracket, that slide thru the grill. The top pair have a screw & nut plate that secures them to the vehicle. The bottom pai have a plastic push pin which keeps the tabs from coming back thru the grill. I think the top screw was a 5/16 head. For the bottom tabs, plastic pin, I took snips & cut the plastic pins not the tabs. Doing it this way, if you have to, you may be able to reinstall the frame by buying just the 2 plastic pins.

Virginia has a front plate law...being "on the job" for many years, about the only time you'll get stopped are when a new class of rookies gets cut loose and is trying to impress their training officers, or a new supervisor. Me, I reserve the stops for night shift, looking for DUIs. With our trucks, I don't think anyone will be drunk driving. As for the plate...carry it with you, and if stopped, show the officer the broken tabs, and you'll fix it first thing. Also, be polite!!! Chances are you'll get a warning.
In Virginia, it's an equipment violation, $25.00 fine......Rube

There was a Hot Rod type mag I was reading a few years ago. Some company made a kit that would drop the plate from behind the bumper when you started the car and raised it when you shut if off.

I've lived in AZ, TX, CA and now in Iowa. You can be pulled over and ticketed in all those states for not having the front plate.

The best thing to do when not running a front plate is to keep the plate under the seat. You also need a suction cup/hook that's available at your local hardware store. Drill a small hole in the plate for the hook. If you ever get pulled over, stick it on the front windshield. If you get any flak over it, tell him you need a new suction cup since the old one is falling off every once and awhile. This has worked for me for years.
