Post Info for HD owners regarding tire balancing etc.

This is straight from one of the engineers in Dearborn. A friend of mine know her up there. She has one of the 01's. Just FYIey Root,

News straight from Dearborn...

Mr. Dave,

WOW! That is awesome you know someone getting a Harley F150. Will it be
the 2000 Version [SuperCab] or the 2001 Version [SuperCrew]? They have just
started selling the 2001 SuperCrews [like mine, 4-door version]. I hope he
[I am assuming a he] is getting the 2001 SuperCrew. It is a great vehicle!
Much improved over the 2000 version.

About the tires: If he experiences out-of-balance problems, there are three
things he should do:

1) Realize these high-speed rated tires will flat spot. Flat spots go away
after driving at least 5 miles and warming up the tires. There should be a
note to that effect in the Owner's Manual.

2) If the tires still seem out of balance, take it to a dealer with a
Hunter 9700 high-speed balancing unit; one that can do 20-inch wheels.
[There are dealers who do not even service the H-D Truck Wheel/Tire
assemblies because they do not have the right equipment]. The service
person should be able to check the balance of each tire AND the Force
Variation of each tire.

2a -->> Balance the tires to within 3 grams [not 3 ozs.] This will help
tremendously.

2b -->> Force Variation should be low. Up to 15 lbs. Force Variation is
ok, but anything higher than that should be, probably can be, returned to
GoodYear for a new tire.

But for the most part, the tires are much improved.
I hope it works out well for him/her.

Hey there Truck Girl!

So one of my friends in Florida is getting one of the Harley F150's.
Have you guys resolved all of the tire issues yet? Or is he in trouble
the first time he goes to rotate the tires?

Thanks,

Dave

I'll be keeping this email first time I take mine in at 5k miles for the first rotate and balance.
