Post F-150 on tailgate

Does anyone have any idea as to how I would remove the F-150 logo from the tailgate and then replace it with the front fender Harley badge? I think someone mentioned that this is how the 2001 Screw looks.
Thanks

I was thinking the same thing. Did'nt know the screws came that way.

You could try the heat gun / strong fingers trick.

OR

You could try using some dental floss. Get under the emblem and pull it across. In effect what you will be doing is cutting the tape that is holding the emblem on. It will probally leave residue that you can buff off.
Seeing how you will be putting the HD-F150 right back over it it should'nt be a big deal.

30 lb. test fishing line. That's what I've always used...and sun light. Then use some laquer thinner or "Goo-Gone".
I put an SVT F-150 badge on my 4x4. No Lightning badges though.

Good luck.

I've taken the old emblem (F-150) and replaced it with one from the side of the HD F-150.
Taking the old one off was a piece of cake. Heat it with a hairdryer on high for about 3 minutes. Loosen the right side with fishing line. I then VERY CAREFULLY lifted the corner with a screwdrive over a balsa paint stirring stick wrapped in a terrycloth until I could get my fingers under it and lifted it right off.
The new badge needs new holes to look right. It will fit in the holes from the old badge, but visually looks too low. The center of the HDF-150 should be on line with the center of the Ford blue oval.
Also, the HDF-150 badge needs to be bent to conform to the tailgate (the front fender is flat and so is the badge. I did this very carefully in a vise with the wood paint sticke covered in terry cloth. Make sure it is warm and do it VERY SLOWLY or else you will either crack the chrome or the plastic..

Mine looks great. About a 2-3 beer job. Taking off the old badge 10 minutes max. Lining up the new badge and getting courage to drill the holes and bending the new badge takes the time.

Was thinking along the same lines with the tonneau cover from Leer but without an accurate description of the thing don't know whether the tonneau already comes with an HD identifier: was thinking of putting a HD 150 logo on the back lip. Anyone know if this might work?

Casey, and others here;
recently saw the 2001 HD at the Toronto Auto Show, and was real envious about the tailgate HD-F150 plaque. I'm going to ask the dealer about getting one, then may use our Texan's procedure outlined here. Only problem is, we REALLY NEED SOME HEAT UP HERE!
Also Casey, I'll check with my Orillia buff guy for an air-brush pro that could detail our hard tonneaus............when they come!
Ride on!................Fred

Motorworf,

Does the side badge really cost $99 ?

Could you have cut the posts off the badge, so that you wouldn't have to drill holes in the tailgate?

Hi Kingie!
I priced one of the side badges yesterday just north of Toronto. They want $225.00. You're lucky you live south of the border!

Yes, it cost $99 via a company in California that was posted elsewhere here. You don't have to be from the USofA to order through the mail.

You could take off the posts; but it would be wiser to leave them on and drill the holes. It will fit in the holes made by the blue oval; but I thought it looked too low on the tailgate.

Cool

If the 2001 HDs have the emblem on the tailgate.. wouldn't the same ones fit the 2000 tailgate?

Any idea how much those are going for?

The HD F150 badges on the fenders are riveted or push pins. The badges at a local dealership were stolen and the dealership had to send the truck to the body shop for repairs. The badges were $50+ for the pair at dealer cost. My girlfriend is the Service Manager at a local Ford dealership.

The HD emblems are on Ebay sometimes for about $50 - $60
