Question Peformance Question

Hey guys,

I was wondering a couple things. Our Harley F-150's have the same 5.4 liter engines as the standard line of F-150's that make 260 ponies. Now, we also have the easier flowing Lightning exhaust and an aluminum driveshaft. Shouldn't that free up a couple HP's at the rear wheels? I haven't seen any figures doccumenting this.

Mike

I was under the impression that the 2001 HD 5.4l were rated at 280hp. But I could be wrong.

I agree, I believe the HD truck is rated at appx. 275 HP. The main difference is the higher-flow Lightning exhaust. Ford attempts to not make too big a deal of these numbers because they hurt the fleet EPA ratings for gas mileage and HP.

Years ago, the auto manufacturers decided to play down HP and other performance stats in most model lines in order not to feel the wrath of the govt. and its pollution, racing, etc. rulings. Much easier on the corporate pocketbook to take a low key stand.
