Question Detailing calipers

Has anyone tried painting their calipers "Harley orange"? I had painted the calipers on my Lightning red to match the truck color and it looked good. I am considering orange as I think that black wouldn't stand out much.

Sounds like a great idea : ) If you do it let me know what type of paint you use. I might do it too...

Question

Gearhead- I'm getting a red 01 L in about 2 weeks and want to paint the calipers red also. Do you have any suggestions on doing this? Where do you purchase the kits to paint them and how much? How much work do this involve?
Thanks

Thumbs up

I agree, this is a good idea. I'd do it. Would set the wheels off even more. Good easy summer project, too. As harleyrules, said, let us know what type of paint is a good choice, etc. PICTURES when you get 'em, please!

Not sure what the material is made of....I did a similiar job on cast iron calipres a few years back. Cleaned the metal off with soap and water, quick wirebrush to rmove flakes, coat with material called OSPHO, used for steel preservation. Let it dry, hit it with the wirebrush again, and paint. This stuff converts the iron oxide to a phosphate base, a primer in itself. It is also good for leaf springs, etc. Spary it on with a pump bottle, then when dry, hit the leafs with spray paint. Lasts forever.....

Cool

To all-
On the Lightning I used Rustoleum Sunrise red paint - the brush on type. This way I didn't have to dis-assemble the calipers or worry about overspray.
I used brake clean solvent to clean up the calipers, then it took 2 coats to cover. They maintained good looks for nearly 2 years. I used a bottle brush to clean them up with Simple Green solution once a week.
