Anyone tried replacing the "F-150" sign on the tailgate with the "HD F-150" emblem from the side of the truck.
I'm thinking of buying one and doing exactly that.
After installing the front and rear Ford blue oval without any problems (or drilling) I want to tackle the "F-150" on the tailgate; but I don't know if it will come off easily or if the "HD F-150" emblem will fit the contour of the tailgate.

I have the side emblem on order.
I now also need a great hitch cover. Someone posted about a really neat billet hitch cover they bought (I think at the H-D dealer in Mpls). It was the H-D logo with wings on each side. They somewhere around $79. They even had a picture that I can no longer find. Any help would be appreciated. I've searched the web and been to the two local H-D shops with no luck.
If at least knew the manufacturer I could probably have better luck in locating one.

Hi, MotorWorf! I have that winged aluminum billet hitch cover.
It has a laser cut and was available at a MN HD dealer, but I ended up having my wife pick it up for me in Kansas City at Blue Springs Harley and it cost $71 plus tax. Their phone number is 816-224-5005 and you can fax them a picture of it to make sure you get the right one at 816-224-6656. After seeing it in MN, we had a hard time finding it other dealerships for some reason.
I really like the way it blends in with the rear of the truck where there isn't enough Harley-Davidson identification, imo.

Make sure to get a lock for the hitch cover, they tend to 'disappear'.

Got the emblem today.
Looks like the original (I think it is)
and even comes with the sticky tape on the
back.
Tomorrow I'll grab a beer (or two) and figure out how to remove the F-150 emblem from the tailgate and put the new emblem on.
Still can't locate that kewl hitch cover. Haven't given up; but it might be a small company (dunno)

Got the emblem in the mail.
Emblem is solidly attached to the taligate.
Looks great.
It is attached with sticky tape and used two pins through the tailgate.
-Hairdrier to heat up sticky tape (3-4 minutes on high)
-20 lb fish line sawed though sticky tape on right side of emblem...just enough to get a flat bladed screwdriver behind emblem
-Wrapped paint stick with washcloth and used it as a pry bar for the screwdriver.
-CAREFULLY lifted emblem just enough to get fingers a grip and the used fingers to lift and magically the whole thing came off clean as a whistle.
-The emblem has two prongs that will fit in the existing holes; but I don't recommend it.
It line up great but it just doesn't look right.
-I moved it to the right about an inch and up about an inch and using the holes the prongs fit in to mark the new hole locations.
I drilled the hole and slapped the new emblem on.
I used the oval ford emblem as my anchor point and made sure the left side of the emblem was the same distance from the edge of the tailgate as the oval ford emblem. I also made sure that the right center of the "F-150" on the emblem was the same distance from the bottom of the tailgate as the oval ford emblem. Measure and check many time before you drill.
I also had to flatten out the emblem because it curved for the front fender. I put two paint stirring sticks in a vise and slapped the terrycloth towel between them and then the emblem in the terrycloth. I heated up the emblem with the hairdryer and then very very CAREFULLY pulled and pushed the emblem in the vise, moving the emblem as needed to get leverage. If you push/pull too much you'll either crack the chrome or crack the plastic inlay on the emblem.
Anywho, it looks great. If had a camera I'd show ya, but I don't so I can't.
