Post Dings in paint

Got mine last week. Durring a good cleaning found dings in paint on top and on hood. Could be hail damage. Could also be reason for no bed cover. Some parts under truck not painted????? Drives great no problems there. Check your trucks "GOOD" and show the problem to your dealer.

John, sorry to hear of the paint probs. I found none of this with my truck, but I may have lucked out because they sidelined mine for intensive Q-checks before shipping.
As for the tonneau, stay tuned as Ford is about to release a letter to owners detailing
how to get the cover that was supposed to come with the truck.
Good luck, and happy truckin'!

Hey John

Well it seems your not the only one with paint problems. I also have dings..well I'll call mine Dangs cause mine are sticking out instead of in. Looks almost like it was done from the inside. Not bad mind you but they do have the look of being a source of paint chipping in the future. I just spotted them today while giving a good wax I found one on the hood and one on the top. I plan on taking mine in monday just to cover my butt. Like John said ...CHECK EM GOOD!!!!!!

I've got a couple of those "factory extra" paint bubbles in my paint job, too. What can be done, shy of having the entire body piece repainted?

I had the same problem with my first 2000 F-150 (build 10/99). They were all over the hood and roof...hard to see unless you know they are there or in the right light. Just under 4,000 miles on truck when I discovered them. So the dealership agreed to buy it back after I refused a new paint job. New one identical to mine was ordered and it arrived with a few of the imperfections (7/31/00). I was not very happy...but took it anyway. None on the sides or tailgate..only on the horizontal surfaces.

The service manager seems to think it is acid rain damage at the factory...not sure if I agree with him???...it could be though. I walked the lot looking at their new 2000 F-150s and Expeditions...most of them had it also. More noticeable in the darker colors.

I had some light spray in the water channels which would not have been noticeable on dark colored truck. Also, some trash or dangs in paint mostly around tailgate. All of this was corrected by dealer under warranty. But beware! Although paint job was satisfactory, had overspray on bumper, chrome wheel, nerf bars, and some plastic parts. Had to take back to have corrected cause didn't initially notice till washed. Also, paint job was prolonged because striping was not in-stock. Warranties are a blessing, but also a bitch.

In addition to a real bad "Orange Peel" paint job in places (especially on sides) I am also noticing pin head white spots showing up on my "Black" 2000 Harley. Since I bought it 300 miles from home I have only communicated with the dealer so far by email. I am giving them Monday (one more day to respond) before I make the phone call. Do I have to take it to the dealer I purchased it from for warranty work?

I have the same problems with my new HD F-150. The paint job is horrible: it looks like it was washed with acid rain. I just can't get the spots out. The roof is really bad. Any feedback from you guys from the dealers? Just waiting to hear from you guys (especially Harley Davidson 2000) before I contact mine. I too bought mine from a dealership about 250 miles away. Help!!

Hello 98screamer. No, the factory pinstrip is a plain piece of 1/8" vinyl tape. I had mine removed and had it pinstripped. I posted some pictures under "HD from Texas" on this message board.

Checked paint closely while washing mine yesterday and haven't noticed any white pinheads or bumps on either hood or roof and sides are flat--no bumps. Also seem to have covered all areas, no missing spots around tailgate or underside or doors. Build date was 07/30/00. Maybe it helped that travel to dealer from plant was less than 100 mi on truck. Sure is a looker when clean ck

Was this just an early problem? My Harley truck is nearly perfect. I've been over it with the "proverbial" fine-tooth comb and am really pleased with the paint job. There is some very slight orange peel on the sides but the hood, tailgate, roof are great.

Mine had about 20 minor nicks and one bubble in the paint.

dealer will rub out the nicks and re-clearcoat. As for the bubble...its right above the left rear taillight. Very small...but very noticeable.

Ive already had the hood replaced...hopefully this will be the last time I have to drop it off at the dealership for paint repairs.

They did give me a free "autobutler" coating for my trouble.

now supposedly I can cook eggs on my truck with its teflon coating

Gads! I can't believe there are this many problems on a late model car. This reminds me of buying an American automobile back in the 60's and 70's. Personally, I've been really pleased with the quality of American products the last 10 years or so. I'm on my third Ford product throughout the 90's and they've all been excellent. I haven't had bad paint, vibration, leaking, rough idle, bad transmission or anything else on any of them like I've been reading about here. I have yet to have to bring a single one of them in for *ANY* warranty or for any other service other than scheduled maintenance.

I must just be lucky?

I had a choice of eleven on the lot. Picked the the best of the bunch. Now, what do I do about prventing chips to the front painted bumpers.
A company called X-Pel (www.xpel.com) makes a clear "bra" for the front of many vehicles. They have one listed for a F-150 Lightning front bumper; but nothing for a HD F-150. Are the shape of the front bumpers different?
