Post Super Charger?

Hi,
I'm new to this forum.. I just bought a HD F-150. I had intended to get the lightning,
but the markup was over 7000.00 and I just couldn't see paying that much. I really liked
the HD interrior and looks so I opted for that model. While looking thru the Ford
Motorsports catalog, I saw that there is a supercharger available for the 1997 - 2000
F150 with either the 4.6 or 5.4 engines. I talked with the dealership I bought the truck
at and was told that yes, this supercharger was for any f150 with the 5.4 triton V8...
I talked to several people because of the warranty issues. I wanted to make sure that
buying it and having them install it would keep the warranty in effect.

I received a call today from the service manager saying that the supercharger couldn't
be put on my truck - that the HD's engines were "calibrated" differently. From all the
research I've done, I haven't seen anything to that effect - I know that it has the lightning
tuned exhaust, lightning shocks, upgraded gears in the rear end (which are listed as
3.75 on the ford web but the sticker said 3.42?), and the appearance package. No where
is there anything that says the engine was modified. I asked her if the supercharger could
be used on any of the F150s sitting in the lot and was told yes - all but the HDs - and then
she insinuated that maybe I didn't have an HD - I bought it off of their showroom
floor - it better be a HD.

The lady I spoke to was very condiscending and rather rude. She asked me "why do you want
to put a supercharger on it anyway." I have to admit, I have been driving Z28s for years,
and just traded in a 1999 TransAM (that did low 13's quarter miles) on the truck and I'm spoiled
- I want that feeling of power when I step on it!! But that's none of her business.

My question is: Does anybody know of any differences in the engines of the HDs and the
other Triton V8 5.4 F150s? Is there any reason why a supercharger listed for the 1997 - 2000
F150s with either the 6 or 8 cylinders wouldn't work with the HD? Is this a case of the
dealership not wanting to have to warranty the item just in case they mess up? I got the feeling that they figured that because I'm a woman they could tell me anything and I would believe it...

thanks,
Lanna

Hi Gene,

I purchased mine at Titus-Will. That's who I was initially dealing with - however I called Mallon last night and was told that yes the supercharger would work on my truck, no there were no differences in "engine calibration", and install is about 445.00 plus tax.. so early next year!! This year I think santa is bringing me the superchip and air filter setup. I already bought an alarm.
Boy, you've had some pretty impressive toys; a C-5 Vette.. that was my first choice, they wanted way too much. I did find a nice 97 but opted for the more "practical" vehicle since I still have my 74 Camaro, which I'm building for drag racing, and my SO has a 91 300zx t/t which I can drive whenever I want (when I can pry the keys from his hand!)
As for the paperwork for the cover, I was told by the dealership not to order one because they had already ordered one for me. I think I'll call just in case.
I live in the tacoma area, and have only seen one other HD on the road, I have seen 5 others at dealer lots... wonder why they aren't selling? Have you seen/stopped by the Harley Davidson gathering every thursday in milton/fife on old 99 at the wrinkled wall?? I've driven by but haven't stopped yet..I plan on transfering over my personalized plates so if you see a HD with wldstrk (wild streak) - say HI...

Hi DevlishZ....
Which dealer you working with? Are they SVT (Mallon)? I bought mine in Spokane (Wendle) but live in Gig Harbor? Since then I've found 3 or 4 Harley's in Tacoma/Puyallup. I also thought about more muscle since I went from one toy to another -- two Z28's, Chevelle SS454, C5 Vette to the Harley...with the last two being in the 365 HP range. Worked with Pro Max on 56th & S Tacoma Way initially. This Forum has much more insight than any local I've talked with. I even talked with Chad Little's (NASCAR) Dad in Spokane who is an authorized Roush Rep for the east side of the Cascades. I am sure you will get the answers you are looking for through this online msg board... Superchip and air filter are the only mod's I have made so far. Have you done the paper work yet for the free ford supplied Leer cover? My Gig Harbor dealer had no idea what I was talking about and of course had no paperwork. They had to call the 1-800 Harley F-150 number to get the paperwork. Now I am waiting for the snail mail...hehe

Take Care,
Gene -- Gig Harbor, WA

Hi devlishz,

I can tell you that there are no differences in the engine calibration for the HD models. We've programmed a number of them, and they use the exact same calibration codes as the other F-150's, usually a UAT3 or UAT2, and sometimes ATC2. The same series of codes we generally see on any other 5.4-motored F-150 of the same model year, in other words.

The only F-150 that has different engine calibrations is the Lightning.

Good luck!
