Power Control Module Failed
Just wanted to share my frustrations with you. My Harley quit one week ago and Ford doesn't have the part required to fix it. Ford has isolated the problem to the "Power Control Module". They say it needs to be replaced. The truck quit on me at the same time I ran over a yellow pie shaped bump with the rear tire. My dealer says the part is not available and they have to get it from the manufacturer (vendor). Is the power control module really unique to the Harley vs other 2000 F-150's?

HI 2000,
They might mean "Powertrain Control Module", which would be your vehicle's main computer, the one that controls the engine & transmission. This is also referred to as the ECU (engien control unit) and several other abbreviations. If that is the case, they should be able to have one for you in just a day or two, there is nothing special about the HD model's powertrain, or it's computer, those are the same as in the regular F-150 that they make 750,000 of each year, typically having computer codes of UAT2 & UAT3, for example which are very common.
I hope you don't have to wait too long, & good luck!

I would like to know the status on your HD/F-150. My self working for a Ford Dealer and putting up with Blue Oval. I want to know the wait time you had. I know the parts are available but most dealers dont stock the modules. Ford wants us to have perfect quality index scores with no parts available. Fixed on time, first time. ya right. All the cars on the lot are owned by Ford the motor company (Floor Plan). Why does not Ford do the same with parts.

Message to Superchips (Mike Troyer):
I was just reading how you helped Tampa Harley, and wondered about these chips.
Is every HD F150 equipped with one of your chips, or was this aftermarket? Also, is the chip the key difference why Lightnings perform better? I thought they had the same 5.4 litre engine, so the only other thing may be the gearing/trans. Just curious, thanks!

Hi Frederick,
No, the Superchip was added on aftermarket, it was not included from the factory.
The Lightning has a *completely* different 5.4 motor from that of any other 5.4 Ford motor just so you'll know, so your previous info on that was apparently in error.
The new (1999 & up) Lightning's 5.4 motor is *supercharged* from the factory, and rated at 360 hp SAE Net stock, though very few of them actually make their rated power, they're more like 320-340 hp stock for the 1999 & 2000 Lightnings, but this is why the Lightnings are so strong stock.
The Superchip for the Lightning adds over 40 horsepower at the flywheel, so it makes a very nice difference on the Lightnings too.

Mike Troyer,
thanks for the info. As you can tell, I'm pretty green on all this. Until this HD F150, I'd only been around pushrod engines, hence no chips.
You really saved 2000_Harley's bacon when the chips were down; congrats there, and fine effort. It's a real exciting era for all, do you agree?
Take care................Fred

HI Frederick,
Yes, I agree, it *is* a very exciting "era". The first few years of computer controls, many people (including me, being an old drag racer) cursed them because they were harder to work on, understanding was much less, etc.
Now that many years have gone by, and the art of powertrain programming has progressed and more and more things are being controlled by various on-board computers in today's vehicles, it is very exciting to be able to control all those powertrain parameters so very precisely, to say nothing of where the future is going.
We are shortly going to be able to surf the Internet while driving usefully (we can do that now, but "usefully" is the key word here) via voice recognition, and basically be "online" all the time. The capabilities we are going to see introduced in just the next 3 years are going to be very exciting indeed.
