spark plug problem

how many people have had problems with spark plugs? I bought an 02 Hd with 2,000 miles on it and it now has 6,000, I was reading the posts on the lightening and i can see there being more problems because of the increase in boost, I do not hot rod all the time but I have gotten on it pretty hard a few times since i got it, is this common with these trucks? thanks G

Do a search on plug blowout on either the Engine or Lightning forums.
There's plenty to read there

To me, it appears to be random. Plugs blow out on Supercharged engines and regular engines. It's not always the same cylender either.
Maybe it's every truck that was built on a Friday afternoon?

The only surefire way (it would appear to me) is to change to the 03 head that has more threads in the plug holes.

thanks Adam, you would think that they would have done inserts from the start. putting 03 heads on sounds pricy, thanks again.

Don't let the spark plug issue stop you from enjoying your truck.
Like I said, plug blowout appears to be random.
There are probably millions of trucks out there that this will never happen to, either supercharged or not.
Maybe some plugs never got correctly installed or torqued properly on the assembly line? Maybe a bunch of heads were made out of tolerance? Who knows?
If you want peace of mind, maybe you should change your plugs checking that they all "feel" ok on the way in and out. If one feels particularly loose going in/out, it might highlight a future problem.
At least doing this you will know they are all snugged down as best as they can be.

Just had my head changed. #3was done. But I just bought it and the previous owner had put a 4lbs pulley(just noticed). I would do what you can to get the 03 heads before your warranty is out.The ""after warrenty program" by Ford is cause they know about the problem. However a head with valve train is $1,000 so they try not to take care of it. Mine had a history of coil fixes before the warranty was up but I think they were searching when it was actually plug.
