Need exhaust replacement

The truck lost the right-side high flow cat two weeks ago which I posted about, and the new one arrived today. The setup is Dynatech long tubes and high flows *welded* into Dynomax race mufflers. Dare I call them mufflers?

Well..I can't stand the loudness of the Dynomax system any longer and since I have to have the right side torn apart to put the replacement high flow back on I figured now's a good a time as any to switch the mufflers.

Anyone have any suggestions as to something that would be compatible but not as loud? This is the right-side - in front of the back wheel - exit setup. Dual chrome tips.

I had the JDM (old style) cat back with a single Mangaflow on my Lightning and liked it a lot. So that's about the deicble level I'm looking for. I don't really care if I give up any performance. I just want the 'droan' to go away. I prefer to hear the KB whining away than to sound like a freight train rolling down the tracks.

Any suggestions are appreciated!!

Oh yeah...this is for an '02 HD. Not enough traffic in that forum so I posted this here.

Thanks,

Dan

I like my MAC catback.. it's cheap, has a nice low tone and the tips fill the opening in the ground effects

(thinking of having the tips ceramic coated)

I have the Bassani and I love the way it sounds, theres nothing like the sound of the Bassani. Not to loud, not to quiet, just right. And I bought mine off of Chickenears, if you want a Bassani go with him. He's definitely a Great Guy!

Thanks guys. My main concern is that the Dynomax mufflers are race mufflers and are VERY small. They're more like tubes. I would want something that wouldn't need too much fabrication. I'll check out Chickenear's site and see if there are any pics.

Also, it seems to me that the high flows are going to have to be 'cut' off of the pipe leading to the mufflers. Then re-fitted to the new muffler(s). Hope that doesn't compromise the integrity of the pipes.

Thanks again.

I bought the truck as is so I'm not sure how stock sounds but with the Dynomax race mufflers it's way too loud for my liking. Not sure how much the long tubes have on that, but too loud nonetheless. I think I'm going to switch to Magnaflow.

OK. Got under there and took a good look. Here's what I got:

High flows welded to 2.5" pipe on each side which feed into a Bassani X-Pipe (welded). From the outlet of the X-Pipe, go two short 2.5" sections which are again welded into single Dynomax 4" x 12" race mufflers. Outlet of the mufflers are welded to two more sections of pipe which exit to slash cut tips.

Here's what I'm thinking about doing:

1) Replace right-side damaged high flow (of course).
2) Order two Magnaflow 4" x 14" SS Ovals (MAG14416)
3) Cut out the Dynomax and replace with the Maggys.

I should have enough inlet pipe coming off the X-Pipe for the new ones to fit perfectly and not have to move the hangers at all.

How's that sound. And oh yeah...how do these Maggys sounds? Anyone use them? Here's a link -

Thanks again..

Hey Dan, are your high flows Bassani?
If so ,I would throw another Bassani high flow cat in that beast and get the Bassani cat back. You,ll give that beast a deep ,big block voice!!!

Andy,

The high flows are Dynatech. I have the replacement high flow from them as well. It's got the Bassani X-pipe. There's really nothing wrong with the system (other than having to replace the high flow) but the Dynomax race mufflers are just waaaaaay too loud. I'd rather not spend the $$$ on a full cat-back system so I'm looking to just replace the mufflers. I can do that for less than $150. If it were a case of say, removing the stock setup and replacing the entire thing, I'd consider the Bassani cat-back. Tell Tim I said hello. I spoke with him a few times when I had my L.

Thanks,

Dan

OK, I gotcha. No problem, I don't blame you a bit for going that route.
I'll tell Tim you said hello.
