Engine Knocking

Hello,
I have 2002 HD and have been noticing a knocking sound coming from the engine. I have searched and read some old threads and it seems this was a problem with the 02's built between feb and may. mine was built in April. I have no mods yet but have driven it pretty hard since ive owned it. Did Ford ever own up to this problem and do aything about it? I will be taking mine into the dealer this week to try to get this taken care of. My truck has 33000 miles on it and my warranty ends at 36000 so I need to get this taken care of immediately. I would like the whole engine replaced instead of just the rods but not sure how to go about doing this. Can you guys make some suggestions. I love owning nice trucks and cars but no nothing about fixing them. I noticed this problem at about 10000 miles and thought thats just the way these trucks sound because they are supercharged. I have learned quite a bit from you guys here and from other forums and appreciate all the info.

Thanks,

You'll probably get more response on other sites. Can you describe what it sounds like and where it's coming from? When exactly does it happen?

Where in SD are you?

Hello,
thanks fpr the replies. I took my truck to the dealer yesterday and of course they couldnt here it .Both the mechanic and the service rep drove it and said they couldnt hear anything. they both drove it seperatelythen asked me to ride with the mechanic to see what i was talking about. while i was driving it was doing it but the mechanic said he couldnt here it .He said all he could hear was the exhaust. Are these guys idiots or what? or are they just trying to avoid the problem? The sound it makes is after i start it I hear a rattling for a second then it stops then I put it into drive it rattles a liitle more then stops then i excelerate it rattles a little more then stops. its never a constant rattle. it is not that loud but its there. even my wife can here it. I cant figure out why they cant. you can also feel it a little in the floor of the truck. It does it more when it is cold. Like I said its not constant and not that loud but i know its there. I am going to take it to the other ford dealer next week and see what they say. The one that i took it to said they gave it a computer diagnosis and found nothing. Go figure. I am a member of the nhtoc and ftw boards but for some reason cant make posts on them. I will try again. Thanks again guys. I live in Vista ca. (north san diego county)

Steve

I have that very same problem in my 01 hd. I took it to the dealership about a month ago and they said that they couldn't hear it either! I hear it why can't they! They are just being hard about it, I know this isn't normal. Oh well what is one to do I wish the dealerships would care more
