question for the harley guys
question for the harley guys
im looking to get a new truck soon and i was decideing what i should get, it was up between a Lightning, a 4X4 or i like the 2000 harleys, i just wanted to know if the 2000 harleys had any problems or anything i should know about before looking into one, i like the 2000 body a little better than the newer ones with 4 doors, and if i can get one relativly cheap i might be able to throw a S/C on it, any help would be appreciated
if you get a HD, you'll have to come to some of the HD meets since you are in NJ also i see.
anyway, i love my 00 HD! I'm with you, i just love the body style of the 00 alot more than the screws. thats the biggest reason i've never traded up, even for the s/c.
Haven't had any problems with mine, and it stands out a little more than all the screw HD's
keep us posted with what you decide

thats great that u never had any problems, the big decision is between this an a Lightning, i like the looks of them both they are relativly the same, but i love the power of the L, but the extra cab og the HD, tough descisions
One real big point you need to look at.......that is the length of the wheel base....... The HD is 139 inches....... The '00 HD will not handle like a Lightning..... If suspension performance is important to you then you will find the '00 Harley doesn't have it. I love my Harley but sure wish it had a performance suspension...... I haven't driven the '03 HD so I can't speak on it's ride?
we have the same springs as the L, but we got ripped off from the L shocks and rear sway bar
i just put my rear bilsteins on the truck on friday and it made a huge difference. The fronts will go on tomorrow hopefully.
My rear sway bar should get here in about 2 weeks, that'll help alot also

I agree with Josh about the appearance. I like the looks of the 00 better than the crewcab, not knocking the other just my personal opinion. My truck is heavily modded and I will probably never stop, so will have to much invested to ever trade it in.

H #356..... Thanks for mentioning the Bilsteins...... When I first got my '00 HD I checked with the Bilsteins shocks however they hadn't made one yet for the HD at the time. Can you save me some lookup time and tell me the numbers for the front and back? And, the swaybar?? I even thought about going with a Roush suspension because of the ride issue. I didn't want to set the truck down that low though....
I drove an '03 since my last reply. Not a bad ride but still much like the ride of the '00. I would like to hear your comments on your ride after you install the Bilsteins on the front. I assume they will eliminate some of the front end bounce feel from the 20 inch wheels and OEM tires??? When my buddy rides with me he points out the front end performance every time...... His comment is the ride feels like wheels out of balance which of course is not the problem..... I am sure the Bilsteins will solve it???
Thanks for reminding me of the Bilsteins again. I have a new '03 Cobra so the Harley is covered and sleeping in the garage a lot........Oh, and yes...it is raining today in western Washington....

So far the 03 Harley has given no problems except for that damn sound that comes every now and then from the tranny(the dealer is going to fix it as soon as I take a day off to take it there
). But we also had a 01 Harley that both me and my dad beat the crap out of and it never ever gave a problem. We put over 45,000 miles on that sucker(daily driver back then) and it still was going strong till the day I traded it in.

2000 Harley-Davidson, good to see you posting again. anyway, the bilsteins are directly off the ford lightning. go to www.nhtoc.com then go to the "how-to" forum. the top sticky thread in that forum has the part#'s for the bilsteins and extra insulator nuts.
got my rear helwig sway bar from a group buy over there too. should be here next week i'm hoping.
Went to the dealer today and the insulator nuts for the front shocks never came in
they were supposed to get there monday! my hood hasn't gotten here yet either! i'm starting to loose my patience with shipping!
