2000 Paint problems?

I've noticed a few spots on my hood where there appears to be some paint rising, like a 3 branch crack...
Have others had issues with their paint chipping up like this, I mean it's only 3 years old with less than 12,500 miles on it... is this a problem that the warranty might cover?

I'm going to have to climb up and check those out myself, I haven't really paid a lot of attention to the roof yet, aside from washing it. I need a stepladder to get to the darn thing
How difficult is it to get the tonneau off Josh? More than a 2 person job?

its not quick release, so you have to unbolt the hinges off, a major PITA. definaetly need at least 2 people.

why are you taking it off?

let me know how it goes though, mine's coming off this summer...gotta try and separate and reglue it

I think it'll be easier to reach the middle of the roof to give it a good polishing, but if it's that much trouble maybee I'll think twice.

I have had the truck back 2 times to the dealer now for that darn tonneau.... First time the whole lock assembley turned when I turned the key so I couldn't get it open...you might remember me posting about that before, and the last time about 2 weeks ago the whole darn thing was stuck!!! Couldn't turn the key! I haven't had any problems with the thing coming unglued... yet.
I'm putting an amp under the passenger seat on monday Woohoo!!!

it is DEFINATELY NOT worth it removing the entire cover just to wax the top of the roof. it would probably be easier to drive down here to NJ and let me do the center of the roof for ya LOL!

i just use a 6' step ladder or open the door and step up on the door sill and i can reach it fine, but then again, i'm 6' 2", you could be 2' 6" for all i know lol j/k

Anyway, i had both of those problems with my leer cover also, i think you'll have a nice suprise in your trucks future with it separating also unfortunately.

What's this "Seperating" stuff??? My lock has worked just fine. The local Canopy dealer (Leer rep) spent more time installing the lock then the whole hard cover. I did have to take it back once to reset the cover. They had it set back about 1/4 inch so part of the front water seal flap kept getting jammed when closing the cover. Are you saying the Leer cover fiberglass is seperating???? Hummm? What should I look for? I thought the Leer cover was a beautiful work of art (to this point) -- an awesome finish for sure...

There have been some problems with the plastic liner separating from the cover, problem with the glue.
Harley #356 has had some bad experience with his cover as well as some others. So far I'm not experiencing those issues but may in the future because it seems to do with hmm, either the mix of epoxy used to hold the two pieces together or the amount used was incorrect for the application. If you do a search for tonneau in the hd forum you'll probably come up with a ton of messages about the situation.
If you're lucky maybe Harley #356 will contribute...

most definately!!!! i still haven't seen a tonneau cover i've liked better than the HD one, cuz it just flows with the body lines so well. matches the hood curves.

BUT, the quality of the glue they used is total crap! my front seal fell off 1 month after i got the cover....very common problem
alot of guys now are having problems with the upper fiberglass tonneau "shell" separating from the bottom plastic hexagonal support layer. My whole drivers side except at the very front and back is now warped up from coming separated, and you can push down on the cover there and it'll flex down 1/2" and you can hear it stick to the glue of the bottom plastic piece, then pull apart again and not stick.

I'm really hoping i can get it separated this summer and get it reglued together with some decent glue, or i'm gonna go crazy trying to find an original replacement cuz they don't make em anymore

Thanks for the insight.......Darn, Ford had so many problems delivering the cover I assumed Leer's product would be first class. I have a Leer cap on my '89 Silverado Sportside that has withstood the test of time except for the finish.....This rig sits outside every day though.....my rain & winter driver........

Yup, i was hoping the same thing.....waited 14 months for my friggin cover....it better be perfect!
the fit and finish is awsome, but the quality of the glue sucks

Must be cuz when ford couldnt' do it themselves, they did the "contract goes to the lowest bidder" and leer must have used pre-chewed bubblegum to stick the lids together to save a few bucks to get the contract

I had the same problem on my hood. The truck had 24k miles when I traded.
