My stock box mod...

I finished my stock box mod. I looked at a lot of different ways to mod the box. I decided on a simple plan that would allow a lot of air, without being obvious.

I plan to get a data baseline using Ken800's new datalogger. When we do our Houston dyno day, I will compare between the stock box, and my modded box.

From everything I have read, this should give some nice results on the seat-o-meter...

im very interested...is it enough screen for debris...also do you have to reset engine control, by discharging elec. system...is this something that should wait until warranty time is over...

i don't see what all the concern is for debris all of a sudden. Look at how many guys, myself included, that are just running a conical filter element and no screen and been doing it for years with no problems at all. if somethihng all that big is going to get up into your airbox, i think you'll run over it 1st, or it'll be big enough to eat the whole friggin airbox and if something is that tiny it'll get past the one screen, thats what the filter is for....to stop any other dirt

There are a lot of guys doing this mod, and not running any screen. I thought it might be a bit safer for small animals, and better looking to do it with some sort of screen. I don't really think you need it though.

I bought a spare airbox to mod, so if I really needed to, I could change back. I don't think Ford would say anything as far as warranty goes.

I'm more concerned with emission testing in Texas. They are so pickey, I thought if they somehow noticed the opening, they might not pass me.

Here is a link to my discussion on how well it performed-Stock Box Performance

Air Box Mod

When I had the stock air box in my Lightning I drilled 5 one and a half inch holes in the bottom of the stock air box, it made a big difference, I also gained an extra pound of boost. you will notice a difference.

I've ran my L for well over a year with no bottom on the box at all. It works great and you can hear the S/C talking to ya as its getting more air. I ran mine at the track with and without the bottom and it makes a difference.

WOW! No botom at all. Maybe I should open the second hole up on mine like I started to do. My concern was disrupting airflow from the fender inlet...
