We have competition...?

I personally LOVE Ford and will never buy anything but a Ford Truck (This is my 5th Ford Truck) But this truck in this link is AWESOME!. I would buy it for a second vehicle if i had the loot! What do you guys think? It is faster than the Lightning but no Crew cab to rival the HD line of Ford. What do you guys think of it?

Here, let me post some sarcastic and envious remarks before anybody else gets a chance too, even though they do not necessarily convey my actual thoughts.

Dodge sucks

It's not produced yet, so stop speculating.

The new Lightning is gonna be better.

Chevy sucks (had to throw that one out too).

In all actuality, I love the idea. Gonna drop the Dodge C.A.F.E. standards slightly, but they will more than make up for it in their new sub-compact vehicle line. The Hurst Shifter rules - taking the idea back to the muscle car ear of the GTO's and Roadrunners. My hats off to Dodge, bravo on a new product.

i agree, but it is going into production, Dodge annouced it 3 days ago. I love the Manual Trans.... But there has to be competition in order for Ford to keep raising the bar! And it comes with STOCK 22's!

Personally the manual trans is a big minus. I loved my Lightning and how easy it was to drive in city traffic. When I'm stop and go on the highway, I want the auto!

That said, the Dodge will be an awesome performer. I don't even mind the looks of the new ones and the cab has a lot more room than the lightning.

My hope is Ford goes with a nice auto in the new L when it comes out like some mag I was reading speculated.

How many Nascar Cars are automatic? I'm sorry, but I don't like a monkey in a box telling me when to shift and downshift. I think anyone that has done any serious racing/road courses will agree with me.

Will beat a Lightning???

I really doubt if this new Dodge will out run a Lightning at the track. I have never, ever, lost a race, in any vehicle I have owned to a standard transmission car.
I welcome this new truck and can hardly wait to stage next to one in my Lightning at the strip this season.

We aren't talking about a Nascar here. When I look at a vechile, I think about my needs. In St Louis, the chances of finding a road race are very low - it just doesn't happen. What does happen is road gridlock on highway 40 and 270. I'll stick with automatic performance vehicles as long as they make them.

That one is funny!!! I've know TONS of guys who have switched to autos in their Mustangs to gain that extra .1 to .2 in the quarter that they can't get with the stick. Another example, 1000 HP Toyota Supras, yes, autos.

As the saying always goes: "If you're racing in a straight line, always buy the auto, if you're racing on a road course, always buy the stick..."

I think the manual trans is a plus. First it will keep the kids still "wet behind the ears" from buying them because they don't know how to drive a stick. I wouldn't buy a Corvette with an automatic either and I have had a few of them.

As far as the sticks being slower, I don't agree with that. I do agree they are less consistent. There is less HP loss in a manual trans. The really fast Mustang racers are dumping the automatics for manual transmissions. Ever heard of a Lenco?

Ford has been sitting back and not really been trying to lead with styling for a while and it is showing in sales....like a 10% loss in market share last year. Lots of Ford guys going to Dodge lately and from what I hear from the guys that change it is because of the aggressive look of the new Dodge. There are quite a few people that like the looks.

Dodge has announced they will bring out a Viper motor QuadCab that will directly be aimed at the HD Ford. I actually would like Ford to end the HD model this year and develop a "performance/image" model with the new '04 that has more trim/color combinations. There are still quite a few unsold '02 HD's on dealer lots (almost 5 months into the '03 model year). The '03s are not selling all that hot now. Looks to me that there needs to be a change with how the "performance/image" Supercab is offered. I think that Ford is limiting the potential buyer of a great truck by badging it as a Harley Davidson model. Beleive it or not, not everyone in America "loves" HD motorycycles.

But back to the original subject, I think it is great for competition to have the new Dodge SRT 10 entering the market. Maybe it will give Ford a kick in the rear.

Lenco??

I was unaware Lenco made a manual transmission. I remember wrenching on one back in my Funny car days, but it was an air operated 3 speed with at triple disk Hayes clutch that was used only for launching. From there on it was just hit the acutator buttoms baby.
To further my claim on automatics, how may blower driven drag classes in both the NHRA and the IHRA use standard, push in the clutch and shift style transmissions??
I have never met the Super Human that can outshift a valve body.
Just my opinion.

That is the reason I did not buy A HD SCrew.
Had I been able to buy a S/C SCrew with interior in something other then black, I'd paid up the additional cash in a heart beat.

I owned a XL1000 80 th Roadster, and hated it ! Worst 10 months of my riding days !

I'd love to be able to get a HD engine & trans combo in a standard SCrew, for an additional cost. I would even care if it was $1,000.00 less then the HD SCrew.
I'd even trade in my '01 if I could get it, and take the hit on it being a 2 year old truck.

Dodge is on to something that Ford is missing in the market. A big powerful engine in a 4 door truck. Not to say that the Dodge is the best, not at all, but it is offering up a option that Ford doesn't. All I can guess is Ford does not want to dilute the SVT line with offering it as an option in regualr F-150s ( don't ask me why they have a SVT Focus if that really is the reason )
