HD or lightning

Guys thinking of trading in my 01 lightning for a HD any exlightning owners out there and any regrets? If i did do this what years would be the ones to go after with superchargers and all the goodies. Also can you get it without cap. seats in the rear and get a bench? thanks Jerry

no bench seats unless you get a 00HD, it has a rear bench, but then there is no s/c.
the 01 and up's are all screws and all 4 bucket seats
02 and 03 are supercharged.

as for 02 or 03, just depends what you like more....flame stickers? or 100th anniv. stripes? gray and black twotone interor? or silver and black two toned interior? dark shadow gray? or silver/black 2tone?

my vote would be the 03 cuz i love the twotoned and plus the fact that its 100th anniv. edition so its a little more special IMO, but no matter what year you pic, you can't go wrong cuz they are all awsome!

goodluck, keep us updated on what you get

For what ever its worth, I went from a 01 HD to a 02 L, and then back to a 02 HD.

I had an 01 L. Loved it. Very fast, drove good, and looked awsome. Just bought a 03 Two tone. Looks awsome, pretty fast, LOTS OF ROOM, drives ok. It just depends on what mood your in. I like them both.

If you are going for all out power, speed, and handling in a sport truck... L, hands down. If you want the most power, handling, and speed you can get in a plush crew cab, get the HD...

I had to mod the heck out of my Harley to stay with a STOCK L. An L with just half my mods will roast me.

RobG is your best bet for an opinion. His was wrecked and he replaced it with a Harley.

As a previous owner of two Lightning's I can honestly say that I prefer the H-D. For one the build quality and paint is much better on the H-D versus the two L's I had. There's more room ( for strippers and what have you ) and power wise it's not too far off from a stock Lightning. With a few proper bolt on's and a good track I think high 12's should be expected. I'll put that theory to test come April when the local tracks open up.

Besides, there isn't anything this large on the road today that can haul a$$ like the H-D, besides heavily modified diesel trucks.
Then there's the interior. Lot's of black and lot's of chrome. Good stuff.

If you need the extra room and you can get one of these trucks for a good price it's a no brainer of a decision as far as I'm concerned.

Well, I have an 01L and my new longblock from JDM will be delivered either today or tomorrow. I am picking up a new harley 2 tone tomorrow, so I guess I will have the best of both worlds.

I did just the opposite. Traded my '00 H-D for an '03 L'. Although I've only put 250 miles on the L' in just under a month, I prefer this truck. Although I do miss the extended cab but not the rattles and wind noise associated with it. The S' Crew is probably tighter due to the addition of the 'B' pillar.

The Lightning is right up my alley in the power and handling dept. It's all in what you want the truck for. I only put around three to five thousand miles per year on my personal vehicle so practicality isn't really an issue for me. No regrets so far! Good luck with your decision.

I say definately go for the HD and put a few hundred bucks of mods in it and run with the L's in HD style.

From: Tampa, FL, or Memphis TN... depends.
I currently own both, both 2002. And I like them both for different reasons. If I had to choose one I would choose the...

The HD is nice, has class, and built in bling. Power is respectable, and the extra seats are nice. All in all if you often travel with more than one friend or family member this is the way to go.

The L is sporty, "younger" driver type, power is simply out of this world, and drive more like a sports car. I think the seats are far better then the ones in the HD (though I wish I had a center console). Bigger bed too.

...Lightning hands down.

Overall I like the L over the HD. The L's handling is much better than that of the HD. I know the L isn't that much lighter than the HD, but it feels like a 8003# less. Maybe by tossing on a 4-6# on the HD would make up the difference. Though only about 18" shorter it feels smaller and also easier getting around parking spots/lots. My L is white, and so has far less bling then the HD. I don't think a white L has a chance of raising the heartbeat of a cop. Just this morning I was doing 75 in a 40 zone and he watched me shoot by.
